Cutting part of model: overview
To cut off a part of the model, use the command Section
.
1.Specify the cutting object(s) in the graphics area or in the Design Tree. The name of the cutting object(s) will appear in the Cutting objects field on the Parameters panel.
Objects available for specifying as cutting objects:
•coordinate or auxiliary plane,
•imported or model-built surface,
•face, a connected set of faces, or a set of faces that are connected to each other,
•solid,
•sketch.
If the model contains multiple bodies and/or components, not all of which are intersected by the cutting object, then operation result depending on section object.
|
The sectioning object can be selected prior to invoking a command. |
2.If necessary, enable the Select tangent faces option. This will select not just the specified face, but a group of adjacent faces of the same body or surface that are connected to each other smoothly or tangentially.
3.If a sketch is selected as the cutting object, the Method toggle is displayed in the Parameters panel, and a surface phantom is displayed in the model's graphic area. The following sketch-based cutting options are available:
•By contour — the cutting object is the surface obtained by extruding the sketch. The sketch in this case must meet the following requirements:
•Sketch objects form one chain — sketch of contour.
•The contour completely intersects the projection of the application area object(s) onto the sketch plane.
•By plane — the cutting object is the plane of the selected sketch.
4.A portion of the model can be removed on either side of the clipping boundary. In the graphics area, the clipping direction is indicated by an arrow pointing toward the portion of the model being removed. To change the clipping direction, click the Change direction
button to the right of the Secant objects field.
5.If you're working with a model containing multiple bodies and/or components, you may need to specify a scope for the operation. The scope defines the objects whose material will be removed when a portion of the model is trimmed.
In the Scope section, specify the scope type — Solids
, Components
or Components and solids
. The search for cut-off objects will be performed among objects of this type.
The operation can apply to all objects in the selected group or just some of them. To select the objects to be trimmed, use the Objects group of buttons. More about methods of objects selection…
6.If necessary, set the section name and its surface display properties using the controls located in the Properties section. More about optical properties and color management...
7.To complete the operation, click the Create object
button.
8.If the operation results in a body consisting of multiple parts, the process of modifying the set of parts begins after the operation. Keep the desired parts of the model. More about parts selection...
After confirming the operation, the model will be truncated and a corresponding icon
will appear in the Construction Tree. .
9.To complete the command, click the Finish
button.
You can hide or leave visible the body/surface used as a cutting object. To hide an object, click the Visible
icon in the object's row in the Model Design Tree.
