Basics of working with layer sets

Scroll

If a document contains a great number of layers, then manual setup of each of them for handling one or another group of objects is inefficient. It is much more rational and convenient in these cases to use layer sets. With their help, it is possible to perform prompt changing of properties — visibility, activity, the option of printing and the color — in multiple (or all) document layers at a time.

Creation of sets of layers and operations with them are performed in the Document tree.

In a graphic document, you can create:

static sets of layers which are composed by the user, such as groups of layers and groups of properties of layers,

dynamic sets which are filled automatically, such as layer filters.

Using layer groups allows quickly changing values of properties for multiple layers. To do this, you need to change property values for the group containing the layers — the changes will automatically be transferred to all the layers in the group.

If you want to assign certain values to layer properties periodically, use layer property groups. You can create several groups and make a separate set of values for each of them. To pass the values of properties from a certain group to layers, you should apply the configuration made for that group.

More about the layer property group...

Layer filters allow to change property values for those layers who have a certain attribute. For this you nee to change the filter properties, where in the filtering conditions the given attribute is set, — and the changes will automatically transferred to all the layers which have this attribute. For example, you can hide all the layers whose names contain the word "Piping".

More about the layer filter...

In a document at the same time you can use either layer groups and layer filters, or layer property groups. Applying of a certain layer set depends on the chosen method of grouping.

If the mode of layer grouping is enabled, then you can create layer groups and layer filters.

If the mode of layer properties grouping is enabled, then you can create layer property groups.

For more details on choosing the grouping method...

Change of the method of grouping in a document where layer groups/filters or layer property groups are already created results in irreversible changes of created groups and filters. The settings made for them are lost. Switching back does not restore the lost settings.

If in a document active was the group layer properties mode, then on enabling the group layers mode, groups of properties will become groups of layers. The settings done for property groups will be lost. The state of the layers included in groups will match their current status in the document.

If the document was in the layers grouping mode, then on enabling the mode for grouping the properties of layers, groups of layers and filters of layers will become groups of properties. The layer group settings will not change, and the filtering criteria set for the filters will be lost. The state of the layers included in the resulting property groups matches their current status in the document. You can configure these property groups as needed.

After transformation of objects, the icons matching them in the Tree will change, and the names will remain the same.

Groups and filters can be created both for a specific view — in this case a group/filter can include only layers of the given view, and for the whole document — in this case a group/filter can include layers of different views.
