Global cursor bindings are managed in the Snaps section of seting dialog box.

To access the section, call the command Settings — Parameters... and in the dialog box that appears, select System — Graphic editor — Snaps. The binding settings made in this section are saved in the system as default, i.e. they are used for all newly opened and created documents.

A dialog containing the same controls appears on the screen after invoking the Settings... command from the Snap button menu from the Snaps button menu on the Quick access bar. The binding settings made in this dialog box are valid only for the current document and only until the end of the document session.

Setting description

List of global snaps

The list allows to change the set of global bindings valid in the document. The list is represented as a table with the Snap type and Method columns. The option to the left of the binding name allows you to control its action. If the option is enabled, the snap is valid in the document, and if it is disabled, it is not valid.

The option in the header row of the table allows you to enable/disable all the options in the list at once. If the list contains both enabled and disabled options, the option is in the undefined state (snaps with enabled options are valid in the document, while those with disabled options  are not).

In the Method column,  the row with the Grid binding  lists the options for its use.

To the visible grid points - snap only to grid nodes and only if the grid is displayed on the screen.

To all grid points — snapping is possible for grid points made invisible by rarefaction. Enabling grid display is optional. Read more about mesh at small scale....

Move up/down

The buttons are used to set the snap priority.

If several global snaps are enabled and at the current cursor position it is possible to execute all of them, the higher priority binding is triggered. The priority of an anchor is determined by its position in the list.

To increase the priority of an anchor, select it in the list and click the Move up button, and to decrease it  — click the Move down button. The selected anchor will move one position in the specified direction.

Settings that apply to both global and local snaps

Angular reference step, deg

The field allows you to set the value, by which the angle of angular anchoring should be changed. For example, if the value of angle step is set to 15°, then it will be possible to snap to the points located on the straight lines passing through the last fixed point at angles of 15°, 30°, 45°, 60°, 90° etc.

The change of the angular reference step takes effect after a restart KOMPAS-3D.

Snap to model elements

The drop-down list allows you to control binding to model objects when building sketch objects. The following options are available:

To all elements — You can use both visible and invisible objects in the current model position when snapping.

Only to visible model elements — when binding to model objects, you can use only those objects that are visible..

Off — it is impossible to snap to model objects in the sketch.

Binding to model objects is described in detail in section. Snap to model objects when working in a sketch.

Snap to background layer objects

The option allows you to snap to objects that lie in the background layers (see Layer states section) of a graphical document or sketch. In drawings this option also includes snapping to objects in background views.

Snap to drawing detailing elements

The option allows you to snap to the drawing design lines (frame, table of the main capton).

After completing the settings, click the dialog box Apply and close. To exit the dialog box without changing the settings, click Cancel.
