The external manifestation of the BOM item is its text part, which can be found in the lines of the BOM sheet. This one corresponds to a "paper" BOM line.

But unlike such line, an electronic BOM item contains much more information:

•text part,

•geometry (graphic objects and three–dimensional models),

•set of advanced options.

An auxiliary BOM item does not contain geometry and has fewer advanced options than the base one.

Text part of the BOM

The text part of a BOM object consists of the information entered into a row of the BOM table. For example, the objects shown in the figure "BOM objects" have text parts "A2 AECT 620840.200SB Assembly Drawing," "A4 AECT 620840.200PS Data Sheet," “A3 1 AECT 620840.210 Level 1 Index,” “A4 2 AECT 620840.220 Pump 1,” “A2 4 AECT 620840.201 Housing 1,” etc.

The methods for entering and editing text are virtually identical to those used for working with text in a drawing. Users have access to commands for formatting fonts and paragraphs, as well as for inserting fractions, superscripts, subscripts, special characters, symbols, and predefined text. Geometry of the BOM object

A BOM object may contain information about the graphical objects in the assembly drawing that make up its representation, and/or about the corresponding component in the 3D assembly. This information is referred to as the geometry of the BOM object.

For example, the geometry of the "Shaft" BOM object may consist of line segments, hatches, and other elements that represent the shaft in an assembly drawing, as well as the "Shaft" part from a 3D assembly.

Only those BOM objects whose data is transferred to the BOM from a linked document may contain geometry. The geometry of BOM objects can consist only of objects from the same document. Object geometry is managed when editing the document linked to the BOM. Learn more about connecting and editing the geometry of a BOM object...

You can enable the "Show BOM Object Geometry" mode in the BOM. In this mode, the system automatically highlights the geometry in the drawing or assembly that corresponds to the selected BOM object. Learn more about viewing the geometry of BOM objects...

It is not strictly required to include all graphic objects that make up an object’s representation in its geometry. However, it is strongly recommended to include a position line in the object’s geometry.

By including a leader-line in the geometry of a BOM object, certain functions linking the BOM to the assembly or drawing are enabled, namely: matching the part number in the drawing/assembly to the part number in the BOM, and automatic calculation of areas.

•If the position numbers in the BOM have changed—for example, due to the addition of reserve lines in sections— the new numbers are automatically updated in the item callout lines in the drawing or model. This update occurs automatically when the BOM is saved.

•If the BOMs includes zone calculations, then when the position of dimension lines in the drawing is changed (for example, as a result of changing the drawing scale or format), the new zone designations for each position are automatically updated in the bill of materials. This occurs automatically when the drawing is saved.

Additional parameters of the BOM object

Additional parameters of a BOM object refer to information that supplements the text (visible) part of the object. This information is never visible in the BOM form. However, it can be viewed and edited at any time.

Additional parameters of the BOM object include:

•The settings for this object affect its position and display in the BOM, as well as its "behavior" during automatic item numbering and object sorting. Learn more about configuring BOM object...

•Documents linked to the object allow property values to be transferred to the corresponding columns in the BOM table (form). Learn more about linking a document to a BOM item...

•The information in the additional fields of the object supplements the information included in the standard form, such as weight data. Learn more about the additional fields...
