Selecting faces based on conditions

Selecting curves, edges, and faces: General Information

The faces of solids and surfaces created in the model are used as reference objects for certain operations. When performing an operation, you can select either individual faces or groups of faces that meet specific criteria.

The following face selection options are available:

Single face,

Adjacent to selected face,

Face and adjacent faces,

Tangent faces,

Tangent fillet faces,

Opration faces,

Solid/surface faces.

The selected condition appears on the Quick Access Toolbar as a button with a corresponding icon on a dark background. To change the condition, click the icon next to the button and select the desired option from the menu that appears.

The face selection conditions menu appears only if multiple faces are available for selecting the current reference object in the current operation.

For example, section of Extrusion element may consist of several faces (the cross-section task recorder — multi-line). When the cross-section is active, the Quick Access Panel displays a menu for selecting faces.

A cross-section of Element by path can be only one edge (the cross-section task recorder— single-line), therefore, when defining a cross-section, the face selection condition menu is not available.

The selection criteria are set for the current register of the current operation and are retained for all subsequent operations performed by the same command. If a command specifies multiple objects of the same type and uses different registers for this purpose (for example, when specifying the faces between which mid-surface), then the selected condition applies to all of these registers.

Depending on the condition set, the following options may be selected for a single BOM:

•Condition Single face — one edge;
the face name is displayed in the active register;

•any other condition: multiple faces that satisfy the given condition;
in most cases, the faces are grouped into a set; the name of the set is displayed in the active register. Learn more about face set...

When selecting multiple faces in certain operations—such as copying, projecting onto a sketch, and others—no set is created. The selected objects are added to the clipboard individually.

When selecting objects using a frame, the face selection criteria set in the Quick Access Toolbar are ignored. Objects are selected according to the selection by widow rules.

Selecting individual faces

If the current mode is Single face , If a face is specified, only that face is selected. It is added to the list of selected faces.

This allows you to select one or more faces.

Selecting a face that has already been selected deselects it.

Selecting faces adjacent to the selected one

If the current method is Adjacent to selected face , If a face is selected, all faces of the solid or surface that share an edge with it are selected, but the selected face itself is not included. Adjacent faces are added to the selection.

If some of the adjacent faces have already been selected, selecting a face adds the remaining, unselected adjacent faces to the selection. If a face is selected when all of its adjacent faces have already been selected, all of them are deselected. The selection status (selected/deselected) of the face being selected remains unchanged.

Selecting a face and its adjacent faces

If the current method is Face and adjacent faces , When a face is selected, that face itself is selected, along with all faces of the solid or surface that share an edge with it. All of these are added to the selection.

If some of the adjacent faces have already been selected, selecting a face adds the remaining, unselected adjacent faces to the selection. If the face itself was not previously selected, it is selected; if it was, it remains selected.

However, if a face and all its adjacent faces have been selected, selecting that face removes all of them from the selection.

Selecting faces connected by a tangent

If the current method is Tangent faces , when a face is selected, not only that face is selected, but also the group of adjacent faces that include it, which are joined together smoothly or tangentially. All of these faces are added to the selection.

If some of the tangent faces have already been selected, selecting any face from the group adds all the remaining, unselected tangent faces to the selection. If all tangent faces have been selected, selecting any one of them deselects the entire group of tangent faces.

Selecting faces with the same radius that are connected by a tangent

If the current method is Tangent fillet faces , When a cylindrical, toroidal, or spherical face is specified, not only is that face selected, but also the group of adjacent cylindrical, toroidal, or spherical faces of the same radius that include it, which are joined together smoothly or tangentially.

If some of the tangent faces have already been selected, selecting any face from the group adds all the remaining, unselected tangent faces to the selection. If all faces in the group are selected, selecting any one of them deselects the entire group.

If you select a face of a different type, such as a plane or a spline surface face, only that specific face is selected.

Select all faces created by a single operation

If the current method is Operation faces , when a face is selected, that face and all other faces created by the same operation are selected. All of these faces are added to the selection.

If some of the edges of an operation have already been selected, selecting any one of them adds all the remaining, unselected edges of that operation to the selection. If all the edges of an operation have been selected, selecting one of them deselects all the edges created by that operation.

If the reference object for an operation must consist of faces from a single body or surface, selecting a face will select all faces created by the same operation and belonging to the same body or surface.

Select all edges of the body/surface

If the current method is Solid/Surface faces , When a face is selected, that face and all other faces belonging to the same body or surface are selected. They are added to the selection.

If some of the faces of a solid or surface are already selected, clicking on a face of that solid or surface adds its remaining faces to the selection. If all faces of a solid or surface are selected, clicking on one of them deselects all faces of that solid or surface.
