Selecting bodies and surfaces

Scroll

When performing certain operations, it is necessary to use all the faces of a solid or surface. In such cases, you can specify the solid or surface itself rather than its individual faces.

Ways to specify a body/surface:

•In the Model Tree, displayed as a design history, select any of the operations that form the desired solid or surface,

•In the Model Tree, displayed as a structure, select the desired body/surface,

•In the model's graphics area, select the desired body or surface after enabling the corresponding filter on the Quick Access Toolbar.

The name of the selected body/surface or a list of all its faces is entered into the log for which the objects are specified.

If certain edges have been specified previously (their names are already in the register), then when a body or surface containing those edges is specified, the following occurs:

•In operations where a whole body or surface can be selected, the edges in the recorder are replaced by the selected body or surface.

•In operations where only faces are selected, all other faces of the selected solid or surface are added to the register. If the register already contains all the faces of the solid or surface, selecting it deselects all faces.

If, after selecting a solid, one of its faces is specified, then:

•For a register containing a body/surface name, the selected body/surface is replaced by the specified face,

•For a register containing a set of faces of a solid or surface—the specified face is removed from the list of faces in the register.

When selecting a face, you can add or remove not just one face, but several at once, depending on the face selection method configured for that recorder.

In some operations, the reference objects are solids and surfaces, rather than their faces. In such cases, to select a solid or surface, it is sufficient to specify any of its objects in the graphics area.
