Building a Flanging

Scroll

Use the Flanging command to build a bend along a curved edge of a sheet part.

After you run the command, specify the flanging parameters, check the correctness of the specified values using a phantom and complete the operation.

Edge

Specify an edge or a sequence of edges in the sheet part for designing a flanging.

After executing the command, set the flanging parameters, verify that the values are correct using the phantom, and complete the operation.

Edge

Select an edge or a sequence of edges on the sheet part to create a flange.

The ribs are selected based on one of the following criteria:

Single curves and edges — each edge is specified manually,
Tangent curves and edges — When you select one of the edges, that edge and all other edges in the chain connected by tangents are automatically selected.

The current condition is displayed on the Quick Access Panel as a button with its icon. The menu for this button allows you to change the condition. More about selecting edges by conditions...

The names of the selected edges are displayed in the Edges field on the Parameters Panel.

After specifying the first edge, a flanging phantom appears in the graphics area.

Bend Extension

A bend extension is a part of the sheet element adjoined to the bend opposite to the edge along which this bend is located.

The length of the flanging bend extension is set using the Bend Extension group of elements.

The method of setting the length is selected using the Setting of Length group of buttons. The length value is set in the Length field.

Methods of setting the bend extension length are specified in the Schemes for setting the bend extension length table.

Tips

Angle and radius

The arrow on the phantom indicates the direction of the angle measurement.

If necessary, you can reverse the angle measurement direction by clicking the Reverse Direction button to the right of the Direction element.

The angle and bend radius parameters are set in the Angle and Radius group.

•Select the method for specifying the flange bend angle by clicking the appropriate button in the Angle Setting group, and enter a value in the Angle field.

•Select the method for specifying the flange bend radius by clicking the appropriate button in the Radius Setting group, and enter a value in the Radius field.

Tips

Flat Pattern

Determination of the bend flat pattern length is configured in the Flat Pattern section.

Select a method for determining the flat pattern length in the Length Determination Method list and specify the parameter for the selected method.

Flanging Properties

You can define the name of the flanging and the properties for its surface display using the controls located in the Properties section.

Completing the Operation

To complete building, click Create Object button .

After completing the above steps, the flanging will appear in the sheet part, and the corresponding icon will be displayed in the Design Tree.

The flanging bend is also displayed in the Design Tree. If necessary, you can edit it.

To complete operation of the command, click Finish .

Tips

•You can set the construction direction, angle, radius and other parameters of the bend in the graphic area using defining points.

•To set linear and angular parameters of the bend, you can use commands of the geometrical calculator.

•You can customize the default properties of bends in the current sheet part.

•You can assign tolerances to the values of the operation parameters expressed in linear or angular values. To do this, run the Tolerance command located in the menu of the required parameter, or click the icon displayed in the parameter field (the icon is displayed if a tolerance is assigned to the parameter value).
