Sections and keys in the INI file |
Scroll |
The data in the ini file is presented as key values organized into sections:
[Directories] |
[RestoreShells] |
|
The key descriptions also include their default values. A key’s default value is the value that is used if, when KOMPAS-3D is launched, the corresponding key is not present in the ini file (or if the ini file itself is missing). |

Default key value
•SpcConvertToMetadata — controls whether a message is displayed when opening a BOM created in KOMPAS-3D prior to version 18, and how such a BOM is processed. Key values:
•0 — (default key value) a message is displayed; to continue, click Yes (agree to convert the specification to the current version’s format) or No (decline conversion),
•1 — no message is displayed; conversion is performed (equivalent to clicking Yes in the message),
•2 — no message is displayed, conversion is not performed (equivalent to clicking the No button in the message).
•ReadOldFormatFiles — controls the ability to open documents created in KOMPAS-3D prior to version 17. Key values:
•Yes — documents open (default key value),
•No — documents are not opened.
•CheckCRC — controls the checksum verification of the loaded KOMPAS document file. Key values:
•No — the checksum is not verified (default value),
•Yes — the checksum is verified.
If the calculated checksum does not match the one recorded in the file, a message about an incorrect file structure is displayed when verification is enabled; if verification is disabled, KOMPAS-3D may crash.
If necessary, you can attempt to open a file with an incorrect checksum using the Open with Verification command (in which case the checksum is not verified); however, this may result in an abnormal termination of KOMPAS-3D.
This section defines the color of non-printing characters.
The color is specified in the RGB model; values can be decimal or hexadecimal. More about setting the color of non-printable characters...
•FormattingCharactersColour — the color of formatting characters.
•EmptySignPlaceColour — the color of placeholders for indices and fractions.
This section contains paths to folders with image files used for texturing model objects. Learn more about working with textures...
•Textures — specifies the name of the folder containing image files that are applied to the object’s surface using the Textures method and simulate the material’s texture.
•Reliefs — specifies the name of the folder containing image files that are applied to the object’s surface using the Relief method and simulate a textured surface.
•Cutouts — specifies the name of the folder containing image files that are applied to the object’s surface using the Cutouts method and simulate a mesh surface.
This section sets the coefficient values for directions as the values of the corresponding keys:
• 3dconnexion_X
• 3dconnexion_Y
• 3dconnexion_Z
• 3dconnexion_A
• 3dconnexion_B
• 3dconnexion_C
The INI file created automatically (i.e., by clicking the Create... link in the Layout section of the configuration dialog) contains the [3dconnexion] section and all its keys with default values. When changing values, keep the following in mind:
•A coefficient greater than the default value increases the rate of image change.
•A coefficient less than the default but greater than 0 means a decrease in the speed of image change.
•A coefficient equal to 0 means the image will not react to the joystick’s movement in the corresponding direction.
•A coefficient less than zero means the image changes in reverse. The higher the absolute value of the coefficient, the faster the rate of change.
This section contains parameters for converting 3D models.
•STEP_Unicode — specifies the text encoding option for string attributes (e.g., part name) when exporting to STEP format. Key values:
•Yes — attribute text is exported in Unicode encoding (default value),
•No — attribute text is exported in non-Unicode encoding (ANSI).
If, after opening the model in the target system, attributes containing Cyrillic characters are displayed incorrectly, set the key value to “No” and re-export the model.
•Keys that define the preferred tools for reading proprietary format models. One key corresponds to one format:
• PPF_NX_ConverterTy
• PPF_CREO_ConverterType
• PPF_SW_ConverterType
• PPF_INV_ConverterType
• PPF_CATIA_ConverterType
• PPF_SE_ConverterType
• PPF_3DXML_ConverterType
Each key can have one of two values:
•ascon — the format uses the built-in readers in KOMPAS-3D; these tools allow you to open models in proprietary formats other than 3D XML; the built-in readers for proprietary formats are installed by default,
•cadex — extended readers are used for the format; these tools allow opening models in any proprietary format; to install the extended readers for proprietary formats, the corresponding option must be enabled during the installation of KOMPAS-3D.
If the extended readers are installed, they are used by default (in the absence of keys) for all formats.
This section controls the creation of a log file where user actions performed while working in KOMPAS-3D are recorded.
File name template:
<date>_KOMPAS_<process ID>
Example of a log file name:
2020-03-17_KOMPAS_14680.log
Log file location:
...\ProgramData\ASCON\KOMPAS-3D\Logs
When KOMPAS-3D is closed normally, this file is deleted; otherwise, it remains.
Since the log file contains information about actions performed in KOMPAS-3D, a technical support representative may ask you to create and send this file when you contact them. If you plan to contact technical support regarding issues with KOMPAS-3D, we recommend attaching the log file to your request.
•WriteLog — determines whether a log file is created. Key values:
•No — the file is not created (default value),
•Yes — the file is created.
This section controls the correction of individual technical errors in a model created with operations without history, which manifest as certain model objects (edges, faces) not being displayed or selected, nor projected in associative views. Errors are corrected when the model is opened using the Open with verification command. To correct projections, the model must be projected again after opening and saving it.
•RestoreNames — determines whether the errors described above are corrected in models when they are opened using the Open with Check command. Key values:
•No — errors are not corrected (default value),
•Yes — errors are corrected.
This section controls the display of the "KOMPAS-3D" splash screen at system startup.
•ShowSplash — determines whether the splash screen is displayed at startup. Key values:
•Yes — the splash screen is displayed (default value),
•No — the splash screen is not displayed.
This section contains information about the maximum block size for printing raster and halftone images.
•MaxBlockSize — specifies the maximum block size (in tens of kilobytes). For example, if the value is 1000, raster and halftone images are printed in 10-megabyte blocks. If the value is less than or equal to 0, the entire image is printed in a single pass.
Contains information about how text is printed.
•TextAsBitmap — determines whether text characters are output as a bitmap. Key values:
•No — characters are printed as characters of the selected font (default key value),
•Yes — characters are printed as bitmap images.
Enabling bitmap text output resolves the issue of printing TrueType fonts supplied with the system on certain plotters (e.g., Calcomp 720C).
Contains information about how drawing views are displayed in preview mode.
•LevelofDetailDrawingView — Enables or disables simplified display of drawing views (as outline rectangles). Key values:
•0 — disables simplified display (default key value),
•1 — enables simplified display for views whose screen size does not exceed the value set in the DisplaySize key,
•2 — enables simplified display of all drawing views, regardless of their screen size.
Simplification applies only in preview mode—it speeds up the rendering of drawings, especially if there are many sheets or if the views are complex. When printing, all views are displayed in full regardless of the key value.
•DisplaySize — sets the viewport size (in pixels). Views whose shortest side is less than or equal to the specified value are replaced by bounding rectangles. Valid values: [3; 3000].
This section contains additional settings.
•DocumentCodeSpaceDelimiterOn — Determines whether a space is added between the document name and the document code. Key values:
•Yes — a space is added (default value),
•No — no space is added.
