KOMPAS-3D allows you to work with several different documents simultaneously.
A newly created document or document opened for editing is displayed on a separate tab – document tab. Tab headers are located in the row under the Main menu. At the beginning of the row, on the left side is the button to invoke the Start page 
. Tab titles are added to a row in a specific order (see section Position of the new tab).
On hovering the mouse pointer over the tab header, a thumbnail view of the document and the path thereto are displayed on the screen.
To activate a document tab, click its header. For sequential switching between tabs, you can use the key shortcuts + (switching left to right) and ++ (switching right to left).
If headers of all the tabs do not fit within a row, then before the first tab and at the end of the row the scroll buttons 
and 
. Besides, at the end of the row there appears the button 
, which brings up the list of all document tabs. You can activate the required document tab by clicking its name in the list.
On the header of each tab, you can invoke the context menu. It includes the following commands:
•Close — close current document tab,
•Close all — close all document tabs,
•Move to a new window KOMPAS — open the current document in a new window KOMPAS-3D,
•Open file folder — open the folder containing the current document in Windows Explorer,
•Copy the full file name — place the name of the current document along with its absolute path in the Windows clipboard.
The last two commands are present in the menu if the file is saved to the disk.

A double-click on the empty space of the tab row opens the document creation dialog (see section Creating a Document), while the menu of the Start page activation button, located at the beginning of this row, contains commands for creating new documents, opening existing ones, as well as a list of recently opened documents. |
The sequence of tabs in the window can be changed in the following ways:
•moving the tab header with the mouse along the row of headers – each next header will change places with the one being moved,
•extraction of a tab by the header and insertion into the required position of the row of headers (in so doing, it is required to release the mouse button at the insertion position) – the borders of headers are highlighted, the tab header is placed into the required point in the row.
Extraction of the tab header from the row of headers can be also used for creation of a new window KOMPAS-3D. To that end, release the mouse button in an arbitrary point of screen. Creation of new windows by moving document tabs is described in section Working with multiple system windows.
