You can create text captions consisting of any number of rows in a drawing or fragment.

To create a text caption, use the Caption command .

The Caption command is also used for setting up placement of existing captions. In this case, you can run it in the process of editing a caption text using the Edit Location command in the context menu. The same controls of the Parameter Panel are available for setting placement as for creating a caption.

When creating a text caption, you can enter its text and configure parameters, for example, the slope angle of the caption. Note that parameter setup should be performed prior to text input since upon completion of text input the caption is created automatically and the system switches to creation of a new caption.

Step-by-step instructions

1.If necessary, configure the caption settings.

Enter the slope angle for text rows relative to the X axis of the current view coordinate system in the Angle field.

By default, the caption text is placed to the right of the snap point. You can select a different method of text placement relative to the snap point using the buttons of the Text Location group (see table).

Methods of text placement relative to snap point

Method

Description

Right-side view

Default variant. The text is placed to the right of the snap point. The extreme left point of the first text row coincides with this point.

Centered

The text is placed symmetrically relative to the snap point. The centerpoint of the first text row coincides with this point.

Left-side view

The text is placed to the left of the snap point. The extreme right point of the first text row coincides with this point.

If you want to mirror the caption text inside its bounding rectangle, enable the Mirroring option.

In case of text mirroring, the position of the caption snap point does not change.

2.Select a snap point for the caption in the graphic area of the document or set coordinates of this point in the Snap Point field of the Parameter Panel.

The system will switch to the mode of working with the caption text — the Add Text subprocess will be launched.

3.Enter the caption text; press the <Enter> key after entering each line. By default, the size of the input marquee is not fixed, it increases as you type so as to hold the whole text. If necessary, you can fix either the width, or the width and height of the marquee and set the rules of text placement inside it (see section Format of Captions on Drawing).

While inputting text, you can use all the techniques described in section Working Techniques, except for insertion of vertical text and illustrations.

Example of a text caption on drawing

If necessary, you can change the caption parameters while inputting text. To do this, run the Edit Location command from the context menu. The system will return to the process of caption creation; the input text will be saved but the snap point coordinates will be lost. Set the required parameters, select the snap point again and complete text entry.

4.After you have entered the text, click Create Object button .

The caption will be created. The system will return to the caption creation command and will await creation of the next caption.

If you want to discard creation of a caption, click Finish .

While in the text input subprocess, you can create several captions with identical parameters. To do this, after entering the first caption, do not click Create Object button but move the cursor outside the input marquee and click the left mouse button. The previous caption will be fixed automatically, and at the specified place a new marquee of input will open.
