In KOMPAS-3D, it is possible to automatically create new models based on an existing model, differing from the initial one in property values and variables. Value sets are extracted from Calc Spreadsheet (*.ods) or Excel Spreadsheet (*.xls). Each new model is recorded in a separate file. Thus, you can create a set of files corresponding, for example, to a series of standard items manufactured according to GOST or OST.
The set of files created based on the original model is called a model family, and the original model itself is Template family, and every model in the family — Instance. The table containing values of properties and variables for instances is called table of families. Each row in it corresponds to a single instance.
Difference of the model family from models with executions The template of the family and each instance are stored in separate files, whereas all versions are located in a single file with the main version.

Please note that if the model is a family template, it cannot be created. version/Option and vice versa, if the model has versions/variants, it cannot be a family template. |
