Recommended system setup for KOMPAS-3D in collaborative work |
Scroll |
In the present section, some recommendations on the organization of shared work of users in the KOMPAS-3D system are provided. Prior to following these recommendations, read sections General Information – Definition of paths to system files and folders. KOMPAS-3D Environment variables.
Use of the suggested recommendations allows to organize work in the system KOMPAS-3D in such a manner that the following requirements are met.
•Consistency in execution of all the issued documents (both hard and electronic copies): some enterprises have their own standards on documentation, corporate templates, forms, etc.
•Centralized storage of documentation.
To configure the KOMPAS-3D system for collaborative work, perform the following actions.
1.Set up a shared resource at some networked computer (for example, on the server). It must be divided into four parts:
•a folder for original documents,
•a folder for backup copies of documents,
•a folder for configuration files,
•a folder for system files.
2.Connect the created shared resource to the KOMPAS-3D workstations as a network drive — this will simplify changing the resource location if needed.
3.At one of the work places, perform a set-up of the system KOMPAS-3D as required. Pay special attention to the following setup objects.
•Setting access rights (see section Set Access Rights).
•Backup copying (see section Backup copy). For placement of copies, specify the subfolders of the folder for backup located on the shared resource.
System settings will be saved in a *.cfg file. By default, it is named KOMPAS.cfg.
4.Move the *.cfg file containing the settings made into a folder for configuration files located on a shared resource.
5.At one of the workstations of KOMPAS-3D, configure document layouts, styles, text templates, user menus, and other system files included in the delivery (by default, all these files are located in the \\SYS subfolder of the main system folder). If necessary, you can create your own detailing and style libraries.
6.Transfer all the contents of the \SYS folder (including files edited or created by you) into a folder for system files which is located on a shared resource.
|
Application of the settings listed in item 5 requires experience in working with KOMPAS system. |
7.Create the file KOMPAS.ini with the section [Directories].
7.1. In the CFG key, specify the path to the *.cfg file.
7.2. In the SYS key, specify the path to the system files folder.
7.3. In the WORK key, specify the path to the folder for original documents.
8.Copy the produced KOMPAS.ini file to each KOMPAS workplace by placing it into the folder where the KOMPAS.exe file is located.
Consistency of document detailing in using the described setting is achieved owing to the following factors:
•document layouts, typeface of lines, texts, hatches, view and contents of template captions and other standard objects are identical since the same system files are used,
•thickness of lines in paper documents as well as the set of printed objects are identical since the relevant information is taken from one and the same undertakes from the same *.cfg file.

To maintain consistency is execution of the documentation, it is possible to use templates of KOMPAS-documents. Having created necessary templates (or having edited ones included in the delivery), place them into a separate folder on a shared resource. To streamline the mass of templates and ensure convenience of their search, this folder can have subfolders. In the TEMPLATES key in the [Directories] sector of the KOMPAS.ini file, specify the path to the templates folder. Configure templates for each type of documents and configure them according to requirements for documentation in your company. Configure templates for new documents in the Document templates. |
Centralized storage of documentation when using the described setup is achieved owing to the fact that on opening and saving documents in all the workplaces one and the same folder is suggested automatically – a folder for original documents.
|
To make document management of (search, archiving, etc.) more convenient, it is recommended to store them in an orderly way. You can distribute documents among folders according to their pertinence to a specific project, etc. |
