Phantom — an image that temporarily appears on the screen during an operation and shows the current state of objects being created or edited. For example, if a line segment is being created, a phantom of the future segment is displayed while waiting for the second point to be entered. When the cursor position is changed, the phantom is dynamically rearranged to show the new state of the segment being entered.

Phantoms also show different variants of object construction with the same initial data. For example, it is possible to draw two tangents to a circle through the same point. In this case, one of the phantoms is active — The active phantom is displayed by default as a solid line, while the passive phantoms are passive. By default, the active phantom is displayed with a solid line, and passive phantoms are displayed with a solid line — dots.
