As soon as an version or variant of of the model it immediately becomes current automatically. In Versions and variants tree a check mark
. Objects of the current version/variant are displayed in the graphic area of the model and in the Design tree.
You can manually set the desired version as the current one and select the current variant for that build.

•In the Versions and Variants tree and in the Version Management dialog box, click the field to the left of the desired version. This field displays the icon for the current object.
•In the Model Tree or the Current Version/Variant Tree (displayed at the bottom of the Tree Panel in Tree: Versions and Variants mode), open the context menu of the root element of the tree, select the Current version command, and specify the desired execution from the list that appears.
•In the Parameters Panel, select the root element of the Tree to display its properties in the Panel, and select the desired model version from the Version drop-down list.
•In the Product Composition Panel in the Variants mode, right-click the header of the variant column (which contains the variant number) and select the Make Current command.
Ways to select the current model variant while working with it
To manually set the desired variant as the current one, use one of the following methods:
•In the Model Tree or the Current Instance/Variant Tree (displayed at the bottom of the Tree Panel in Tree: Versions and Variants mode)—from the context menu of the root element of the Tree, select the Current Variant command and specify the desired variant from the list that appears. The list contains only the variants of the build that is currently active; the Default row corresponds to this build. If you need to select a variant of a different build, first make that build the active one.
•In the Parameters Panel, select the root element of the Tree to display its properties in the Panel, and select the desired model variant from the Variant drop-down list. The list is available if the current model instance has variants; it contains only the variants for that instance. If you need to select a variant from a different instance, first make that instance the current one.
Selecting the current version/variant when opening a model
When opening a model with versions/variants, you can specify which version/variant will be the current one.
To select a version, open the Version list in the file open dialog and select the desired one.
If variants have been created for the selected version in the model, the Variant drop-down list will also appear in the dialog. Select the desired variant from this list (if no variant selection is required, leave the Default option selected).
Changing the version/variant for an assembly model component
If a model with versions/variants is a component of an assembly, keep the following in mind.
The model variant that was active when this model was inserted as a component is saved in the assembly and does not change if the active variant is changed in the component file.
If you need to change the variant used for the component in the assembly, select the Current Variant command from the component’s context menu and specify the desired variant from the list that appears.
The model variant that was active when this model was inserted as a component is applied in the assembly if the As Saved variant is listed first in the variant list specified when configuring the open parameters. If the first line of the list contains the Default variant, then the assembly uses not the current variant, but the version for which it was created (i.e., the selected variant is ignored). In all other cases, the variant with a higher priority in the list is applied to the component.
To change the variant applied to a component in the current build, select the Current variant command from the component’s context menu and specify the desired variant from the list that appears.

The list of variants contains only the variants of the component model that is currently active; the Default row corresponds to this variant. If you need to select a variant from a different version, first make that version the current one. |
The variant change applies to the current session. When you reopen the assembly, the list of variants specified in the Open Options dialog box will be applied to its components.
Changing the instance and/or variant for a component in an assembly applies only to that assembly. These changes are not transferred to other assemblies or to the component’s source model file.
Changing the current instance and/or variant in the component’s source model file does not affect the assembly models that contain this component.

You can change the version or variant while editing a component's properties. To do this, select the Component Properties command from the component's context menu and expand the Parameter Panel Source section. Use the Version list to select a version, and the Variant list to select a variant. Changing the instance/variant is also available when replacing the component source. |
