Principles for applying variants when loading assembly components
To ensure that a assembly model’s components are loaded with the correct geometry when the model is opened, you must create a list of variants to be applied when loading the components.
Variants are arranged in the list in order of priority; that is, the variant at the top of the list is applied to the components first. If this variant is not present in the component model, the next variant in the list will be applied, and so on until the last line.
The list may include both model composition variants and model representation variants. In addition, the list contains two system-level loading options:
•As saved — the build components are assigned the combination of variants that was present in this build when it was last saved.
•By default — assembly components are loaded in their entirety, regardless of variants. If a component model contains versions, the variant designated as the current one is loaded.
|
The As Saved and Default options allow you to disable a custom options list without deleting it: to do this, move the As saved or Default entry to the top of the list. If one of these entries is in the middle of the list, the options below it will not be applied. |
For a variant added to the list to be applied to a component, it must be present in that component’s file when the assembly containing it is opened; for a component with instances, it must be present in the instance that was active when the assembly was last saved. If the desired variant is not present, the component will be displayed in the assembly according to the As saved or Default variant (whichever is higher in the list).
The variant list applies to the assembly's components when the assembly is opened. It does not affect the assembly itself or individual components opened outside the assembly. If a subassembly is opened outside the assembly, the variant list applies to its components.
If a component is opened from an assembly using the Edit component in window or Edit component in place command, it is loaded exactly as it appeared in the assembly.
Configuring the list of available variants
You can configure the list of options in the Openining parameters dialog box.
The dialog box contains an Order of variant application field, which displays a list of variants. To the right of the field are buttons for configuring the list.
Steps to Follow
1.Add all the necessary model variants to the list.
To add a variant, click the Add
button and enter the variant name.
The added variant appears at the top of the list.
If necessary, you can change the name of the added variant. To do this, select the variant’s row, click the Edit
button, and make the necessary changes.
|
The names of the options are case-sensitive. |
1.Arrange the options in the list in the correct order.
To move a list item up or down, select it and click the Move Up
button or Move down
. The buttons are available if the selected row can be moved accordingly.
2.If necessary, save the customized list of options to an XML file. To do this, click the Save to File
button and enter the file name in the save dialog that appears.
|
Later on, you'll be able to load the list from a file using the Read from File The uploaded list replaces the one currently displayed in the dialog box. |
3.To finish configuring, click the Apply and Close button.
If you want to exit the dialog without saving changes, click the Cancel button.
The change will be applied to builds opened after the change was made. Assemblies that are already open will remain as they are.
