Controlling assembly downloading using model variants

Preliminary steps

1.Create all the necessary variants (model composition variants and model representation variants) in the assembly component files—parts and subassemblies.

•For a detail variant, the set of objects to be loaded is generated when the variant is created.
If a variant is created within an assembly, only objects created directly within that assembly are available for selection, and its components are loaded in their entirety. If certain components should not be loaded, exclude them from the calculation. If you need components to be loaded only partially, create the necessary detail variants within them.

•To create a presentation variant, first create the variant, and then make the necessary changes to the model’s geometry and/or properties (for example, set a moving element to one of its operating positions). If necessary, you can exclude objects and/or components from the calculation that should not be loaded.

When creating any of these variants, you can further simplify the model's geometry—for example, by removing minor design elements such as chamfers, fillets, and so on.

Instructions for working with the assembly

1.Open the assembly you want to work with.

2.Create composition variant or variant of representation for this assembly.
This variant automatically becomes the current one.

3.Select the desired options for the assembly components. These will be saved in the current assembly configuration. When you open the assembly, its components will be loaded according to the options selected for them.

4.Save the assembly.

You can create multiple detail levels and/or view options within an assembly, each with different combinations of its component options. Set the most frequently used option for this assembly as the default, and switch to the others as needed.

5.Work with the assembly as usual.
Variant objects can be used for various constructions, selected as reference objects for operations, and more. For example, a sketch can become the cross-section of an extrusion feature, a curve can become the path of a path-following feature, and control points can be used to position features in the assembly, and so on.

If an associative drawing is created for a model with detail levels and/or view variants, the geometry of the associative views corresponds to the variant that is currently active in the model. If necessary, you can select a different model variant for projection when configuring the parameters of the associative view during its creation or editing.

Working with a build that includes additional configuration of opening settings

1.Create a list of options in the openning parameters dialog box. The options are listed in the order in which they are applied to the component models being loaded.

Organize the list of options based on how often they are used when opening assembly models.

2.If necessary, save the list of options to a file.

You can create several different combinations of options and save them as files. This allows you to quickly load the sequence of options needed for your current design task.

3.Close the settings dialog.

4.Open the assembly model.
The model components will be loaded according to the opening settings (see previous sections).

5.Work with the build as usual.

6.In subsequent sessions with the build, a different combination of its components may be required.
Before opening the build, launch the openning parameters dialog and ensure that the order of variants in the Order of variant application list allows you to load the build components with the data set currently required.

•If the order of the options in the list does not meet your requirements, edit the list.
For example, model variants that need to be loaded may be included in the list but not prioritized. In that case, move them to the correct positions. If the required variants are not in the list, add them. You can also replace the list of variants with another one saved in a file.

•If the order of variants in the list is suitable for most components, leave the list unchanged. After opening the assembly, you will be able to change variants, and you can select variants that are present in the configuration list or absent from it. More about changing variants...

•If you want the variant combination specified for that particular assembly to be applied to the components when the assembly is opened, move the As Saved line to the top of the list. The desired variant combination must be set in advance and saved in the assembly.

•If you want the assembly components to be loaded without considering variants, move the Default line to the top of the list.

After performing the necessary actions in the settings dialog, close it.

7.Open the assembly and work with it as usual.

Working with an associative assembly drawing, where components are loaded with variants, has its own specific features.

Creating a model drawing with variants

Using variants for model analysis and the design of its components

1.Create a model representation variant in the assembly component file or in the assembly itself.
The created variant will become the current one.

2.Make the necessary changes to the model's geometry and/or properties; for example, position the moving element as needed, modify the optical properties of the surfaces, and so on.

3.Similarly, create all the necessary variants and configure the model geometry and/or its properties for them.

4.Open the model with the desired variant:

•if you need to open a specific part or assembly for which a variant has been created, select the desired variant in the file open dialog,

•If you need to open an assembly with variant versions of its components, specify these variants in the opening parameters dialog box, or open the assembly as is and select the desired variant versions of its components using the context menu commands.

5.Work with the model as usual.
When working with a view variant, the same actions are available as with a dependent model version.

If necessary, you can change the model variant by setting a different variant as the current one. You can also change the variant for a component of the assembly model.
