A model drawing that includes composition variants and/or variants of representation is created in the usual manner.

The geometry of associative views corresponds to the variant that is currently active in the model. If necessary, you can select a different model variant for projection. You can switch variants when configuring the parameters of an associative view during its creation or editing.

An assembly drawing with components has the following features.

The associative views of components in the drawing correspond to the variants set for these components in the assembly at the time the drawing was created. This state is preserved for subsequent work sessions.

If, later on, other variants are selected for the components while working with the assembly, these changes will be transferred to the drawing, and after rebuilding, the geometry of the views will change—it will correspond to the selected variants.

Features of working with drawings when using the openning settings

If you use the openning options dialog box when working with assemblies (see the section on working with model variants), the assembly opens according to the list of variants configured in the dialog box. When creating a drawing, the associative views of the assembly components will correspond to the sequence of variants specified in this list.

As you continue working, the order of the options in the dialog box may change. This does not affect the drawing or alter the geometry of the views.

Recommendations

•In general, it is recommended that an associative drawing of an assembly model with variants be created when the As saved option is at the top of the variant list in the Open Options dialog box.

•If you require the geometry of components in the drawing to correspond to a different, user-defined order of variants in the list, problems may arise when working simultaneously with the assembly and its associative drawing (when both documents are open at the same time). To avoid this, it is recommended that you:

•either save the customized list of options to a file and use it in the Open Options dialog when you need to edit a drawing while the assembly file is open, or vice versa—edit an assembly while the drawing file is open,

•or first open the drawing, select the Load data from the model command from the context menu of the root element of the Assembly Tree, and then open the assembly.

If you follow these recommendations, the applied views in the drawing and assembly will remain in sync when you work on both simultaneously. Otherwise, the following occurs: whenever the assembly is modified and the drawing is regenerated, the geometry of associative views changes and is updated to match the current view of the assembly, including the variants currently applied to the assembly’s components. These changes are saved for future sessions working with the drawing. However, if changes are made to the assembly again, the assembly file is closed, and the drawing file is opened, then after the drawing is regenerated, not only the latest assembly changes will be applied, but also the initial state of the component variants that existed at the time the drawing was created.
