What are model variants used for
A model variant (or simply a variant) is an associative copy of a model that differs in geometry and/or surface properties. A variant can be created for the model itself or for any of its versions. It maintains a link to the original model or version.
Variants are created in the Variants and Versions Tree, which is displayed in the Model Tree Panel when the Variants and Versions button is pressed
. They are marked with an icon
.
You can work with the desired view by setting it as the current one. Objects in the current variant will be displayed in the model graphics area and in the Model Tree panel for any Tree view — Design History, Structural represntation, or Zones. When working with the Variants and Versions Tree, objects in the current variant can be viewed in the Variant Design Tree, displayed at the bottom of the Tree panel.
If the model with representation variants is a component of the assembly, then when working with the assembly, you can select the appropriate option for displaying the component. More about variant change...
A view contains both constant and variable data. Constant data is data that is the same for all variants of representation contained in a single document. Variable data differs from one view to another.
Setting variant properties differs from setting properties for dependent versions. One key difference is that the values for the Name and Variant Designation properties are the same as those for the base model or version. Learn more about editing variant properties...
KOMPAS-3D allows you to configure the transfer of objects and variables created in source versions to variants of representation.

In some cases, you can use a model variant to simplify the representation of a component in an assembly. However, to improve performance when working with large assemblies, it is recommended to replace «heavy» components with model comosition variants or mockups. |

You can specify the model view to be displayed in the drawing when selecting a model for projection. You can change an existing view when creating or editing an associative view. |
