What are model variants used for
A model composition variant is a set of objects without a history, which are copies of selected geometric objects from the original model. These copies do not contain information about design parameters or links with other objects, but they retain an associative link with the original objects. Changes made to the original model are transferred to the variant; that is, if an object in the original model is modified, the corresponding object in the variant will also change. Changes are transferred after the variant is rebuilt.
Variant details are created in the Variants and Versions Tree, which is displayed in the Model Tree Panel when the Variants and Versions
button is pressed. Composition options created for a part are marked with an icon
, and for assembly —
.
In the Structure Tree, the link between objects in a composition variant and their source objects is indicated by an icon
. This distinguishes them from version objects and model representation variants. In addition, objects that are part of a variant are marked with an icon
, which means they are blocked.
A composition variant can be created for the model itself or for any of its versions. You can create multiple such variants within a single model. Learn more about creating a model composition variant...
The composition variant option maintains a link to the original model/version.
You can work with the desired breakdown level by setting it as current. The objects in the current breakdown level will be displayed in the model's graphical area and in the Model Tree Panel regardless of the Tree view. — Design history, Structural representation, Zones. When working with the Version and Variant Tree, you can view the objects of the current detail level in the Variant Structure Tree, which is displayed at the bottom of the Tree panel.
If the model with representation variants is a component of the assembly, then when working with the assembly, you can select the appropriate option for displaying the component. More about variant change...
A variant representation contains both constant and variable data. Constant data is data that is the same for all layout variants contained in a single document. Variable data differs from one variant to another.
KOMPAS-3D includes an option to pass variables created in source versions to variants.

You can specify the model composition variant to be displayed in the drawing when selecting a model for projection. You can change an existing composition variant when creating or editing an associative view. |
