Blending of rounding surface and section shape

Scroll

The rounding surface is mated along its borders with the specified surfaces. The shape of the rounding surface section depends on the mating conditions. For selecting a fillet, use the elements of the Mating group in the Rounding section on the Parameter Panel:

Not specified — the cross-section of the rounding surface is a segment, and the surface itself essentially represents a ruled surface constructed between boundary curves.

Along tangent — the fillet surface touches the specified surfaces along its boundaries. The can setting for the cross-sectional shape of the rounding surface is available.

Smooth — The fillet surface has a smooth—that is, continuous in curvature—conjugate surface with the specified surfaces along its boundaries. This connection is possible if, when constructing the rounding surface, the method Along a line. The cross-section of the rounding surface is a spline.

The Mating group is not displayed on the Parameter Panel if the Tangent to Surface option is selected for specifying the width. The cross-section of the fillet surface is a circular arc.

Configuring the cross-section shape of the rounding surface

If the Along Tangent option is selected in the Mating group, you can configure the shape of the fillet surface. This can be an arc of a circle (or ellipse) or a conic section. The ability to select one shape or another depends on how the surface width is specified. For a numberof methods, the settings are configured in the Shape group under the Mating group. The table below describes the controls for configuring the cross-sectional shape.

Controls and cross-section shape

How to set the surface width

Circular Arc/Elliptical Arc in a group Shape — the cross-section of the rounded surface will be an arc of a circle or an arc of an ellipse (for the method By offsets from sides)

Along the radius of the inscribed circle

Along the chord

By offsets from sides

Conical curve in the group Shape — the cross-section of the rounded surface will be a conic curve, the shape of which is determined by the parameter Coefficient. The value of the coefficient is calculated using the function selected in the button group Function Type.
Specify the function type and set the corresponding parameters.

If you select theConstant function, enter the coefficient value in the Coefficient field.

When selecting the Linear or Cubic function, enter values in the fields Initial factor and Final coefficient.

For the By values at points option, specify the coefficient values in the table. Learn more...

TheMinimal stress button allows you to specify the cross-sectional shape so that the stress along the curve is minimized; in this case, the Coefficient field is not displayed in the Parameter Panel.

Buttons in the Function Type group

The buttons are located under the Mating group—the cross-section of the fillet will be a conical curve. The procedure for specifying the parameters is the same as that described for configuring the shape of a conical curve in the Shape group; see above.
