Selecting Objects in the Graphic Area |
Scroll |
In the graphic area of the model the following methods of objects selection are supported:
•Selecting objects with a mouse,
•Object selection using an encompassing or intersecting marquee.
Specifying objects with the mouse
To select an object by clicking, move the cursor to it. Click the left mouse button when the symbol of the current object appears next to the cursor and the object is highlighted.
When you hover the cursor over the graphic area of the model, the system will perform automatic Dynamic Targeting of objects. If an object is found, it will be highlighted, and its symbol will appear next to the cursor. For example, if the cursor is hovered above the edge, it will look like
, and when hovered above a face —
(the list of cursor appearances is provided in the appendix). Cursor icon when selecting different types of objects in the graphic area of the model). When the cursor moves away from the object, the symbol disappears, the highlighting turns off, and dynamic search resumes.
During execution of the operation the dynamic targeting is performed based on the types of objects used in the operation. When you hover the cursor over the model, an object of the required type will be highlighted.
Clicking an object while holding down the <Shift> + <Ctrl> keys combination allows you to select the entire model to which this object belongs in the graphic area. For example, when working with an assembly you can select a component by selecting one of its objects, while when working with a part you can select the whole part. Pointing with <Shift> + <Ctrl> to any object in an already selected model deselects it.
Using the <Shift> and <Ctrl> keys, you can add new objects to the selected ones and exclude them from the selection. To do this, select objects by holding down the <Shift> key or the <Ctrl> key. This action will invert the object selection — objects that are not selected will become selected, while selected objects will be deselected. Selection of any other objects will remain unchanged. Using this method you can create groups of required objects.
|
You can combine the selection of groups of objects and parts. This means that you can, for example, first select several objects by holding down the <Ctrl> key, then, without releasing it, press the <Shift> key (in this case, the selection is not removed from the objects) and, while holding down both keys, select several parts. Thus, a group of objects and a group of parts will be selected simultaneously in the graphic area of the model. |
Selecting objects with a marquee
Objects in the graphic area can be selected using an encompassing or intersecting marquee. To do that place the cursor on a free space (so that it doesn’t grasp any objects), click the left mouse button and move the cursor keeping the button pressed. On the screen, the marquee following the cursor will be displayed.
•When you move the cursor from left to right, an encompassing marquee is formed. It is displayed in a solid line and is filled with blue color. After you release the mouse button the objects that got fully into the marquee will be selected.
•When you move the cursor from right to left, a intersecting marquee is formed. It is displayed in dashed line and is filled with light-green color. After releasing the mouse button, only the objects that got at least partly into the marquee will be selected.
When the new marquee is created in the graphic area the previous selection is canceled. If you need to add objects to previously selected objects, do the marquee selection with the <Shift> key pressed.
Holding the <Ctrl> key during the selection process allows you to invert the selection – unselected objects that fall within the selection box will be selected, while selected objects will be deselected.
When working with an assembly you may need to select its components. To do this, perform a marquee selection while holding the <Shift> key and the <Ctrl> key. When selecting with an encompassing marquee, the component should be entirely within the marquee. When selecting with an intersecting marquee, the component should be at least partially within the marquee. If an object that's already selected falls inside the marquee it will be de-selected.

Notes on selecting objects using a marquee
•The marquee will select only the objects that are visible on the screen. Objects fully obstructed by other objects will not be selected. To select the obstructed objects use special commands for marquee selection.
•Object covered by a marquee can include other objects. For example, a broken line consists of edges and vertices, a solid — of edges, vertices, and faces, etc. When falling into the marquee, the composite object itself becomes selected, not the objects that comprise it. For example, when selecting with an intersecting marquee, the marquee covers part of the broken line containing several edges and vertices. As a result, the entire broken line will be selected, not just its edges and vertices. When using an encompassing marquee for selection, if an edge of the broken line and its vertices fall into the marquee, then the edge and vertices will be selected. If the entire broken line falls into the marquee, the "broken line" object will be selected, not just a set of edges and vertices.
•You can select objects with an encompassing and intersecting marquee in the process of various commands execution. In this case, the selection of objects has the following features.
•If running a command requires the selection of a single object (on the Parameters Panel you can see Single line register), the first eligible object inside the marquee will be selected (where "first" in this context refers to the object created earlier in the model than the others). When regenerating a marquee, the following occurs: if a previously selected object falls inside the marquee, it will be deselected (the object will be removed from the register); if a previously selected object does not fall inside the marquee, the first eligible object within the marquee will be selected instead.
•If selection of a single or multiple objects is possible for command execution (on the Parameters Panel you can see Multi-line register), all suitable objects are selected. When the marquee is regenerated, the selection will be inverted.
When selecting with the <Shift> key, objects are added to the selection. Previously selected objects that fall inside the marquee will remain selected.
•When plotting certain objects, for example, Linear surfaces, objects covered by a marquee can be filled by two registers at once. So for the creation of a Ruled surface by two curves Specify two contours (on the Parameters Panel the Contour 1 and Contour 2 the registers are displayed). From the objects selected by the marquee, the first two separate objects (or object chains) are chosen. Their names are inserted into the Contour 1 and Contour 2 registers. The features of using the marquee for constructing various types of linear surfaces are provided in the sections that describe the construction of these surfaces.
•You can select objects with marquee in the main window of KOMPAS-3D as well as in the Source model window In various processes. The selection process is the same as in the main window of the system (see the previous paragraph for details on selection in various processes).
•If enabled Model section mode, marquee will select only those objects that are at least partially visible on the screen. The objects that are fully located in the cut off part (that are not displayed in the screen) cannot be selected.
To select an object with an encompassing marquee, the remaining part of the object on the screen must fully fall inside the marquee. There are no special notes on using the intersecting marquee with the active model sectioning mode.
