A property is an information correlated with a graphic image or a model and reflecting one of its characteristics such as designation, name, weight, etc.

The list of document properties is created in a drawing, fragment, or model document. This is a unified list for the document and the objects it comprises, whereas values of the objects' properties can differ.

Properties can be set:

in graphic documents – to an entire drawing or fragment, to macro-elements or insertions of views and fragments;

in a model document – to an entire model, to solids and components.

In a drawing's associative view, properties of the model based on which the drawing was created can be available for preview.

Properties are divided into system and additional ones. By default, the property list only includes system properties. You can add additional properties to the list.

During your work process you can edit the set of additional properties in the list: create and add new properties, change and delete existing ones, add properties from property libraries. These actions are described in section Generating a list of document properties.

The KOMPAS-3D system delivery set includes the properties library properties.lpt. You can add properties from this library to your documents or create your own property libraries (see section Creating a property library).

Using property libraries is recommended when working with properties.

To set a property value, a property from the list must be displayed in the document properties. Enabling properties display for document is described in the Configuring document property list.

Property values are set while working with document.

You can view property values of the document and of the objects it comprises as well as view properties and their values. For this purpose, you can use:

Parameter Panel: allows you to work with properties of a separate object or document (see section Working with properties on the Parameters Panel);

Property Editor: allows you to work with properties of all the objects within the document and of the document itself (see section Property Editor).

When working with models, you can manage properties using the Product composition panel.

By default, components in a model and insertions in a graphic document are displayed with properties set in their source files. If necessary, you can change these values in the current document. For some properties of the component, it is possible to transfer their new values to the source file. In other cases, the modified property values of objects are stored in the current document and are not transferred to the files of the objects themselves.

If an object is used in several documents, it would be reasonable to set and modify its properties in the source file — any input data will be displayed in the documents containing this object (provided that the object's property values were not edited in the document).

Properties of a document and of objects within it can be used for representations in form of reports. For more details on reports, see section Reports.
