In KOMPAS-3D, you can import models from interchange and proprietary formats (for the list of formats, see section Import and export of models).
The result of importing a part is one file – a KOMPAS-3D part, which is displayed on the current tab in the KOMPAS-3D window.
The result of importing an assembly can be:
•one file of the assembly model in which all components are stored as local models; it opens in the current tab,
•several files — the main assembly and main assembly components (subassemblies and parts); the main assembly is located on the current tab.
The option to import assembly components is selected when you configure import options.
Notes on importing model objects
Step-by-step instructions
1.Invoke the Open... 
command.
2.In the File Types list, in the dialog that appears, select the desired format.
3.Specify the file to import in the dialog box.
4.For a AutoCAD (*.dxf, *.dwg) file format, specify the type of document to be opened by enabling the Read in model option in the right-hand part of the dialog.
No additional actions are required for other file formats.
5.Run the import process by clicking the Open button.
For certain formats, the Open button contains a menu with the Open and Open with parameters... commands.
•The Open command allows you to import the model without changing import parameters. Invoking this command is equivalent to pressing the Open button.
•The Open with Parameters... command allows to set up the model import parameters. After invoking the command, the import settings configuration dialog appears on the screen.
Perform the necessary configurations and click the Import button in the dialog or click the Start Reading button (for DXF and DWG formats).

After pressing the Open button, invoking the Open command, or confirming the start of import in the parameter settings dialog, the import process of the selected file will start. After the import is complete, the model is loaded for editing.
For some formats, additional actions are required after starting the import process.
