When importing from STEP, JT, and STL formats and exporting to STEP and JT formats, you can use configurations. Configurations allow you to repeatedly apply previously saved import/export settings or transfer them to other workstations.

Configuration is a file that contains a list of object types and import/export parameters. For different formats, configuration files have different extensions; see the table.

You can save the import configuration or load an existing one in the import parameters configuration dialog. The dialog appears on the screen after calling the command Open with parameters...

Save the export configuration or load an existing one in the Configuration field on the Parameter Panel after calling the Export command.

To save the performed settings, use the Save to file button . When you click the button, the standard Save File dialog appears on the screen. After saving, the path to the configuration file and its name are displayed in the Configuration field.

To load an existing configuration, click the field name Configuration. This action brings the standard Open File dialog box where you can choose a configuration.

When you open a configuration file, the system automatically suggests a correct file extension for the current document format. But you can load any configuration, even for other file formats. To do this, in the file open dialog, you need to select File Type — All Files (*.*) and choose the configuration file with the required extension. Configuration files for import and export of different formats are similar in structure and contents, therefore you can use the matching parameters for import and export of other formats.

If a configuration is loaded, it is automatically applied to import/export of a current document, and also to other read/write procedures in the current KOMPAS-3D session. These parameters are also applied to documents imported/exported without any setup (i.e. using the commands Open and Save As...).

If no configurations are loaded, the default KOMPAS-3D import/export settings are applied.

If you change import or export parameters for a current file, but don't save them to a configuration file, those changes are applied once, i.e. for reading or writing that one file only.
