Sometimes it is required that certain components have the same reference number in the BOMs for different build versions. This is usually required for components that perform the same function, but represented by different models (or different versions of models) in different versions of the assembly.

In order for certain components of the KOMPAS-3D assembly to have the same reference number, they should be combined into a group of components with the same position. There can be several such groups within one assembly. One component can belong to only one group. Information about component groups is stored in an assembly file.

All components included in the same group will have the same reference number in the BOM.

Use the Groups of components toolbar.

Operations with groups of components

To write the results of working with groups of components to the model file, the file should be saved. Operations performed when working with groups cannot be undone, therefore to refuse the groups create/delete/modify operations you should close the assembly file without saving.

If the assembly contains several identical components, you don’t need to include all of them in one group. For example, only four out of ten bolts may be included in the group. As a result, these four bolts will have one reference number, and the rest of the bolts will have a different reference number based on the objects sorting in the BOM.
