Editing user BOM items (i.e., created manually using the command Add base object) is produced in a regular way and is not constrained by anything.

Editing automatically generated objects based on the properties of constituent parts of the product has the following features:

Editing the text of the object
Editing the designation or name of the BOM item results in the corresponding property of the constituent part losing its link to the source. It means that a change in the property in the source file will not be transferred to the document containing the insert of an item from this file.
Property cells without reference to the source have a red frame.
To restore the link, you need to edit properties of corresponding constituents of the product, including obtaining the value of Designation or Name properties from the source.
Another, faster way to restore the link is to invoke the By Source command from the context menu of the cell with the red box. After that, the current value of the property in the cell will be replaced by the property from the source, and the red marquee will disappear.
If required, you can turn off the display of red marquees with the command View — Select property cells with no connection to the source.

Attaching and detaching documents
The source file of the component is automatically connected to the BOM item that corresponds to this component.
If other documents were attached to an external BOM item in the source file of a component, then all of them and the component model are attached to the corresponding BOM item in the assembly. All the properties needed for BOM object creation are extracted from the model, and the Format property is retrieved from the document specified for this during the setup of the external BOM item.
These documents cannot be detached from the BOM item – the button for removing the document from the list is not available in the Documents section on the Parameters Panel.
You can attach to or detach new documents from the item. Obtaining the Format property from the manually connected document is possible if no document was selected during the configuration of the external BOM item. Other properties are always extracted from the component model.

Changing the composition of the geometry
The geometry of the BOM item automatically and unconditionally includes the document item whose properties are used for creating this BOM item.
You can’t exclude a document item from the geometry of its corresponding BOM item.
