Use of variables allows to change the values of numerical parameters of operations of a model and the control dimensions of a graphic document and a sketch. Values are edited on the Variables toolbar. Besides, you can assign or change tolerance for the value of parameter or a tolerance for dimension.

Tolerances are displayed in the Tolerance column. By default, this column is not shown on the Variables toolbar. To enable the column display, invoke the Tolerance command from the button menu in the top corner of the Variables toolbar.

If the cell of the Tolerance column in the row of the variable is filled, then for this variable available are preview, setting, and change of tolerance. A cell is filled in the following cases:

while working with the model:

if a variable matches to the operation parameter whose value is expressed in linear or angular values,

if the variable corresponds to the control dimension of the sketch,

while working with a graphic document – if the variable matches the control dimension.

In all the other cases, the cell of the Tolerance column in the row of variable remains empty.

While working with a model, the tolerance of the parameter value or the control dimension (in a sketch) can be either general or individual. More details on tolerances...

In graphic documents, all the tolerances are individual. On the Variables toolbar, displayed are both general and individual tolerances.

The tolerance has the appearance of an interval between the extreme values of parameter or dimension. For example, for the linear dimension 60 having a variable, an quality class tolerance H10 with the maximum deviations +0.00 and +0.12 was assigned. This tolerance is displayed on the Variables toolbar as [60;60.12].

If neither individual nor general tolerance was assigned to the value of a parameter or dimension, then the maximum values constituting the interval coincide the rated value of the parameter (dimension). For example, a tolerance was not set to the linear dimension 60 having a variable. The content of the cell of the Tolerance column in the Variables Panel is [60;60]. Such entry is also used if the Nominal option was enabled on setting an individual tolerance.

Cells of the Tolerance column are of gray color. All the cells of the Tolerance column are unavailable for manual input. To assign or change a tolerance, fetch a dialog for setting a tolerance using one of the following methods:

invoke the Assign tolerance command from the context menu of the variable name,

double-click in a cell of the Tolerance column which matches the variable.

How to work with the dialog for assigning a tolerance

A blank cell of the Tolerance column can also mean that the variable corresponds to the size or parameter for which the use of tolerance is disabled. In this case, having fetched a dialog for setting a tolerance you can enable use of tolerance and set its value.
