Point on curve

Scroll

The point position on the curve is defined by its offset along the curve from its start or end. You may specify the offset in relative or absolute values.

The curve may be any 3D curve or its segment, a sketch line or an edge.

Use the Point on curve command to construct a point on a curve.

Step-by-step instructions

1.Select a curve to plot a point. The name of the curve is displayed in the Curve field on the Parameter Panel. Two phantoms are displayed on the curve: a point at the specified location and the starting vertex with an arrow of the distance calculation direction.

2.Use one of the following methods to specify the point position:

Use the mouse to drag the point to the required position on the curve.

Set an offset numerical value from the starting vertex of the curve using the Offset buttons on the Parameter Panel:

In % of curve length: enter offset in percentage in the field % of curve length.

By segment length: enter the offset in units of length measurement in the field Length.

By central angle of arc: enter offset in angular measurement units in the Angle field. (The option is available if an arc of a circle or ellipse is selected as the curve).

You can change the reference direction of the point offset to the opposite (from the final vertex of the curve to the initial one) by clicking Change direction button to the right of the field where the offset value is specified.

In the process of plotting, you can switch between offset options. The offset value will be recalculated and displayed in the units of the selected option.

Select a point object. A point closest to the selected object will be found on the curve. The name of the point object is displayed in the Snap Point field.

3.Advanced plotting options.

You can select a coordinate system relative to which a point will be located. To do that, use the Coordinate System section. Details...

You can change the name, color and style of the point display. To do that, use the Properties section.

4.To complete the operation, click Create an object .

A point appears in the graphical area, and in the Construction Tree — its icon .

5.To complete operation of the command, click Finish .

Tips

You can change the position of the created point in the graphic area by moving the defining point (see section Defining Points of Objects).

To set linear and angular parameters, you can use geometrical calculator.

You can assign tolerances to the values of the operation parameters expressed in linear and angular values. To do this, invoke the Tolerance command located in the required parameter menu, or click the icon displayed in the parameter field (the icon is displayed if a tolerance is assigned to the parameter value). More details on assign tolerance...
