Opening Documents Linked to the BOM |
Scroll |
When working with a BOM linked to other documents, you can quickly open those documents without looking for them in folders on disk.
The following features are available:
•Opening the document from which the property value in the cell was obtained
To do this, use the Open the source of the property command in the context menu of the cell. After running it, a document opens in the KOMPAS-3D window where the property the value of which is displayed in the cell has been configured. For example, running the command for a cell in the Format column will open the drawing the format of which is shown in this cell, and running the command for a cell in the Designation column will open the document where the designation shown in this cell is specified.
Note that if a component property value has been changed in the assembly, then the assembly file will be opened, not the component file. For example, the name of the part was changed in the assembly compared to the source name. The assembly BOM displays the modified part name instead of the original name, i. e. the source of the Name property is the assembly. Therefore, the Open the source of the property command run for this cell will load the assembly file; the selected part will be highlighted. If the name of the part in the assembly was not changed, then the part file will be opened after running the command.

If the property value was not changed in the assembly but the function of getting it from the source file is disabled, then the Open the source of the property command loads the assembly. Therefore, when an assembly connected to the BOM is opened instead of the expected opening of the property source document, check the source of the property values of the component that the BOM object corresponds to. To do this, after opening the assembly, run the Component Properties command from the context menu of the selected component and expand the Property List section on the Parameter Panel. To enable the display of properties that are hidden by default (for example, the Format property), click Property List Settings button |
•Opening Documents Attached to a BOM Item
One or several documents can be attached to a BOM item. For example, an assembly, assembly drawing, and BOM can be attached to an item in the Assembly Units section.
To view the list of documents connected to the BOM item, select this item. The Parameter Panel will display controls for the item parameters, including the Documents section. The section displays the list of documents connected to the item. When a document is selected in the list its thumbnail will be displayed in the Panel.
To open the selected document, click Edit in Window button
