To change properties of a component, the Component properties
command is used.
After you run this command, property setting controls appear on the Parameter toolbar. Perform all the required actions for establishing properties and complete the operation.
Component Designation and Name
To specify a designation and a name, use controls in the Main section of the Parameter toolbar.
To change the designation of the component model, click the mouse in the Designation field. A toolbar with fields for input of designation parts will appear. Generate the designation and press <Enter>.
Composition and step-by-step instructions to assign model designation
It's available to select a designation from the external reference (Unified System of Design Documentation Classifier) by clicking the Reference
button next to the Designation field. The reference should be connected to KOMPAS-3D.
The component name is entered in the Name field.
If a designation/name must be taken from the component file, click the By source
button next to the designation/name input field.
To the right of the field names Designation and Name, there is the icon
. It brings up a menu with commands for working with links. Commands Insert link and Edit link invoke creation or editing link dialog, and the Additional data command (available for the field Name) — dialog of adding text. You can create a name in it, including a link and plain text or several links (for example, when entering information about a part without a drawing: its name is usually supplemented with material designation and dimensions required for manufacturing — these data can be added to the name as links). In addition, dialog of adding the text allows you to include such inserts as fractions, superscripts, special characters, and more in the title.
|
The link in the field Designation is displayed in black. Editing or supplementing the text in this field using the task panel of the designation destroys the link. The link in the Name field is displayed in blue. If the field contains several links or a link and plain text, the field content is displayed in black, and the name – in blue with underlining. In this case, clicking on the name or the field's content activates the dialog of adding text. |
Component source file. Replacing a component with a mockup
It's available to select a source file of a component in the Source section of the Parameter panel.
To specify the required file, click on the name of the Source file field. The screen will display the file selection dialog. Specify the file of the required model in the dialog.
If the selected model contains version and additional numbers, then the dialog displays lists which allow for selection of the required version and an additional number. If the model contains created configurations variants of geometric representation, the dialog will also display the list of Variant. It's possible to select the required variant from this list.
To complete the file selection, click Open. The full file name will appear in the Source file field of the Parameter toolbar.
|
Interchange file format can be selected as the component source. In this case the component will be converted to an imported component. If the change source file of the imported component operation is performed for the imported component it can remain imported or become a regular component in case KOMPAS-file is selected. Details... |
If you want to re-select a version, variant, and/or additional number of a model, use the lists Version, Variant, and Additional number, located on the Parameter panel. The lists are present on the Panel if the model contains corresponding versions, variants, and additional numbers.
|
For a local part and a local stock part, another model cannot be selected, and the selection of a version, variant, and additional number is only possible when the source of the insertion is a model containing versions, variants, and additional numbers. |
If required, you can replace the inserted component with a mockup. To do this, set the Use mockup switch to the I position (on) and select the desired template file in the dialog that appears. In the Source section, the Mockup file field will be added. The component will become a mockup component. More details about the properties of the mockup component...
If you want to cancel using the mockup, set the on-offswitch to position 0 (disabled).
|
You can execute the replacement of the source file of a component in a special process Replace components. It also allows you to replace the source of several components at once. More details about replacement the source of the components... |
Component material and hatch parameters
Material of a component and hatch parameters used for display in cuts/sections in associative views of drawings are displayed in the Material section of the Parameter Panel. Material designation is contained in the Material field and hatch parameters (style, angle and color) in the Graphic display of material group fields.
If necessary, you can select another material and change hatch parameters. This is possible if the method of CMP calculation selected is either By density
or By mass
(the required method is chosen in the CMP calculation section, see below).
When you select one of these methods, the following material selection buttons will appear next to the Material field:
Select material from list — allows selecting material from the density reference file, which is used by the system KOMPAS-3D by default. Pressing the button, it opens Density of material dialog selection. When you select the material in this manner, hatch parameters are set automatically.
Select material from library – allows you to select material from the external reference connected to KOMPAS-3D.
Besides, hatch parameters configuration fields will become available. Build the required values in these fields.
Component CMP calculation
To choose a method of a component CMP calculation and to perform the calculation, controls of the CMP calculation section are used.
Choose the required method from the Method of calculation list and configure parameters for the selected method. The following options are available.
By source data
Values of mass and coordinates of the component center of gravity are taken from this component’s file.
Original version (only for the component variant)
The center-mass properties of a variant are considered to be the characteristics calculated for the initial execution.
By density
Material density is specified for CMP calculation. The density value is entered in the field Density, g/mm³ or retrieved from the reference (depending on the state of Value from reference
button). The specified density is used for all solids built directly in the component whose own density is not specified.
By mass
The mass value is configured manually in the field Mass, g. In this case, the center of gravity is calculated using the current mass of components and solids.
•For manual configuration of the center of gravity coordinationsset the switch Center of gravity to the I position (on) and enter the required coordinate values in the Coordinates field.
•If it is necessary to manually specify the axial and centrifugal moments of inertia, set the toggle switch Moments of nertia, g*mm² to the I (on) position and enter the required values in the corresponding table cells. Return to the values calculated based on the current mass and configuration of the component using the Calculate inertia moments button
above the table.
To calculate CMP, click Recalculate CMP
button. After the calculation is complete, the information window with the calculation results will appear on the screen.
For more details about the CMP settings, see section CMP setting and recalculation.
Placing on assembly layers. Component display parameters
For selecting the placement method of the component on the assembly layers and establishing the display parameters, use the elements of the Displaying section.
•Specify the method for placing the component in the assembly layers in the group Placement in layers. The following options are available:
On the specified layer — all objects of the component and all its sub-components are placed on a single layer, which is selected from the list in the Layer field.
On source layers — objects of the component and all its subordinate components are located on the same layers as in the source file.
Methods of component placement in the assembly layers
•In the field Method of defining, choose the color and optical options for the surface of component objects. Display parameters can be transferred from the current assembly, the component source-file, or established manually.
Methods of assigning display parameters for objects
In case of manual configuration the controls for establishing the display properties are available on the Parameters panel.
Manual setting of display parameters
If necessary, you can change advanced options of a component.
•Enable/disable object accounting in BOM. To do this, in the Main section of the Parameter panel, set the switch Include into BOM. More details on creating a BOM based on data contained in the document...
For a blank part, inclusion in the BOM means that the use of the blank part will be reflected in the BOM and in the drawing.
•Select the method of representing a subassembly in the assembly BOM: as a single BOM item or as several items corresponding to the constituent parts of the subassembly. To do this, set the on-off Assembly Unit/Constituent Parts switch in the Main section of the Parameter panel. The on-off switch is available if the component is a subassembly and is included in the BOM. More details on how subassemblies are represented as constituent parts in the assembly BOM...
•Recalculate dimensions for the component based on tolerances. To do this, expand the Source section, set the Recalculate dimensions switch to position I (on) and select the necessary option from the Recalculation method drop-down list (for details on recalculations, see section).
