General information about imported components

Scroll

A part or an assembly from a file of the following formats can be inserted into the model as a component:

interchange format (except for STL, AutoCAD DXF and DWG formats),

proprietary format,

format of the mathematical core C3D (*.c3d).

In the process of adding a component, the model is read from the file. The component imported as a result is stored in the assembly model as a local part . It's available to use it to perform various operations in the assembly (for example, for building holes) and for adding matings.

It's not available to use files of interchange formats to add component templates, or to replace a component with a template.

When the model is imported, objects are transferred from the file of interchangeable format to the KOMPAS-document. Specifics of transferring various objects are described in section Notes on importing model objects.

Link of the imported component with the source file

The imported component may or may not be linked with the source file (this is determined by the setting when you insert the component). Depending on whether the link is available, please note the following when working with the component.

If the component retains the link with the source, it's only available to change its properties in the assembly, such as its designation and name. It's impossible to edit the component geometry.
It's possible to control changes to the source file and transfer these changes to the component.
If necessary,it's possible to disable the connection using the Remove connection with source command from the context menu of the component. The command applies to all insertions of this component that retain link to the source.
Other actions with the component are similar to actions with a local part.

If the link of the component to the source is disabled, then it becomes a regular local part. All the same actions become available for it as for a local part.

If the link with the source is disabled for the imported component, you will not be able to enable this link later.
