A document (object) designation may include the following elements:

base part,

version number,

additional number of the version,

document code.

The code set in the model is transferred to the BOM created based on this model and is not transferred to the model associative drawing.

Examples of a model code:

PM – Digital model of the part,

AUM – Digital assembly unit model.

If a designation only contains the base part, it is considered simple. A designation which besides its base part includes one or several additional parts, is considered compound.

Designation setting order

A document (object) designation is set in a special toolbar or dialog box where a separate field is provided for each part of the designation. These fields can be filled in manually or automatically.

Designation setting bar

Designation setting bar is used for configuring object properties with the help of:

Parameter Panel — to call the designation setting bar, you need to click in the Designation field of the Main section of the Parameter Panel;

Product Components Toolbar — to call the designation task panel, double-click in the cell of the Designation column.

This toolbar can contain the following fields for input of designation parts: Base Part, Version Number, Additional number of the version and Code. The set of fields depends on the document or object the designation is set for.

You can enter all the designation parts from the keyboard (manual input into these fields is available).

If a designation is set when creating a version, then the version number is generated automatically (parameters of version number generation are determined by the settings). You can change the version number manually, however note that the number should be unique within the document.

Features of specifying version numbers...

A document code can be entered from the keyboard or selected from the code list in the Codes and names. To open this dialog box, click Document Code button next to the dialog field with the same name.

Designation parts can have separators between them. By default, the first separator is a dash (specified in customizing the), and the second one — a space.

Separators are not included into a ready designation if the respective part of designation (version number or document code) is not specified.

You can modify default separators if needed. To do this, enter one arbitrary symbol in the required separator setting field.

A designation must contain the first separator, that is why it cannot be deleted. If a separator is deleted (the field is left blank), then the deleted separator is restored in the designation after closing the dialog box.

Presence of a second separator is optional. You can delete it.

When you have finished setting all the required designation parts, press <Enter>. The designation setting toolbar will be hidden. The generated designation will appear in the Designation field.

If you want to abort designation setting, press <Esc>.

After invoking the Codes and names dialog, the designation task panel is automatically hidden.

Designation setting dialog box

The designation setting dialog box is used for generating a multi–part designation in the following cases:

filling in a graphic or text document Title Block,

creating/editing a BOM object,

working with properties of a document (object) in the Property Editor or Document manager.

If the designation only includes a base part, then it can be entered or edited directly in its cell (without opening the designation setting dialog box).

This dialog box, same as the Designation setting toolbar, contains a set of fields, each corresponding to a certain designation part.

Ways of opening the dialog box and working in it are described in the following sections:

Designation dialog box (designation input when working in the Property Editor and Document Manager)

Designation dialog box (designation input in the title block and BOM object)
