Section of an extrusion surface |
Scroll |
In this section:
Objects used as a cross-section
You can select one or more model objects as the extrusion surface section. These objects can be:
•sketch (a sketch with several contours, both closed and open, is available; the contours must not overlap),
•closed area in the sketch,
•3D curve,
•curve,
•face.
The set of selected objects can be arbitrary.
|
Using curves with subordinate objects-curves (projection curve, intersection curve, etc.) has its peculiarities. Details... |
Sectional objects can be planar and non-planar, closed and open-ended.
If the section consists of flat closed objects, then construction of a closed surface is available (such surface is constructed if the Closed surface option is enabled). Construction of a closed surface is also possible if the section contains both flat and non-planar faces. If there are open or non-planar objects (except for faces), it is impossible to close the surface. In this case for surface construction it is necessary that the Close surface option is disabled.
Examples of closed and open surfaces construction are shown in the figure Extrude face.
|
Existing objects (except sketch areas) can be specified before starting the operation. They will be automatically selected as a section. You can only specify sketch areas after the operation has been started. |
If necessary, without interrupting the command, you can draw a contour or sketch and add it to the set of section objects (see below).
The objects selected as sections can be located in different planes, but for each of them extrusion in the desired direction must be available. If at least one of the objects cannot be extruded in the specified direction, the extrusion surface is not built.
•To select the existing object as a section, specify it in the Design Tree or in the graphic area of the model.
Features of selecting a sketch and a sketch area:
•to select a sketch, specify one of its objects in the graphic area of the model or specify the sketch itself in the Design Tree,
•To select an area in the sketch, click inside the required area.
•To create a new object (contour or sketch), do the following.
•To plot a contour, press the Build Contour
button located to the right of the Section field. This will start process of creating a contour. Specify the objects included in the contour, and click Create Object.
•To create a sketch, press the Create Sketch
button to the right of the Section field. This will start process of sketch placement, and then the system will switch to the sketch mode for creating geometry. Perform the steps necessary to build and complete the sketch mode.
After completing the contour/sketch creation process, the system returns to the surface plotting process. The new contour/sketch appears in the Design tree and is automatically selected as the section of the extrusion surface.
The name of the object selected as a section is displayed in the Section in the view of a list. You can add objects to the list and remove them from the list.
If the section is a sketch (area in the sketch), you can edit the sketch without interrupting the command. To do this, select it in the Section field and click the Edit
button next to the field. Similarly, you can edit a contour if it is used as a section.
|
If, when moving a section in a given direction, two or more section points have coincident trajectories, then the operation is impossible. It is necessary to change the section or direction. |
