In KOMPAS-3D it is possible to build a contour based on the objects available in the model. Such objects can be:

spatial curves, in case of a composite curve - also individual segments,

edges of bodies or surfaces,

sketch lines,

previously created contours.

The contour is built by the Contour command.

Procedure

1.Select the contour type by pressing the corresponding button in the Type group of the Parameters panel. The following options are available.

Auto determination of type (default option) — the type of contour is automatically determined by the system depending on the specified objects for constructing the contour,

Arbitrary contour — may include objects of varying types in any combinations.

Contour on face — a contour consisting of the edges of a single face,

Sketch contour — a contour consisting of lines of a single sketch.

2.Check which way the curves forming the chain are chosen, is set on the Parameters panel: United or Single . The default method is United , i.e. when specifying an object included in the contour, this object itself and neighboring objects/chains of objects are selected.

If you need to manually specify each object of the contour, set this toggle switch to Manually.

3.Specify objects that the contour will consist of. You may select objects depending on the specified type of the contour.
When specifying the objects, two conditions must be met: the created contour must be continuous, and there should be no self-intersections.
The names of specified objects are displayed in the Objects field of the Parameters panel.

After specifying objects, a phantom contour appears in the graphic area. The initial vertex of the contour is determined by the system. It is marked on the phantom with an arrow of plotting direction.

4.If needed, you can plot a contour at a certain offset from the specified curves. To do this, press Equidistant Curve button to the right of the field Objects. Will be started the process of building an equidistant curve. Complete the necessary steps for the plotting process and press Create Object . The system will go back to creating the contour.

Please note that an equidistant plotted in the process of creating a contour, will not be displayed in the Design Tree as a standalone object. It is stored inside of a contour object for which it has been created.

5.If necessary, you can change the direction of the contour construction by pressing the Change Direction button located to the right of the Objects field.

6.You can plot fillets at the points of connection of the contour segments.

7.If you need to hide the original curves used to plot the contour, please enable the Hide original curves option.

8.You can set the name, the color and the display parameters of the contour. To do that, use the Properties section.

9.To complete the contour building, click Create object button.
A contour appears in the graphic area, and its icon in the Design tree .

The operation cannot be completed if the contour has self-intersections or discontinuities. In this case after pressing the Create object button the contour is not created and an error message appears on the screen. If there are self-intersections, their points are highlighted on the contour phantom in the graphics area.

10.To terminate the command, click the Finish button.

The contour is associatively linked to the objects it was built from, so when the shape of these objects changes, the shape of the contour changes as well.

When editing a contour in the Parameter panel, there is a Creation options section with the Create with matchingbutton .

Use this button if the original objects for contour creation are replaced by other objects. This will preserve the associative relationship of the geometry that is based on the contour with its reference objects.
