Creating a component "in place" (part, subassembly, local part) |
Scroll |
To create a component in the model, invoke the appropriate command, set the parameters of the component and complete the operation. After that, the system automatically switches to the editing mode of the newly created component. Perform all necessary constructions and complete editing.
Commands to create a component
To create a component, invoke one of the following commands:
•Create Part
— creation of part.
• Create assembly
– creation of assembly.
•Create local part
— creation of virtual part.
Component Designation and Name
To specify the designation of the component model, place the cursor in the Designation field. A panel will appear on the screen containing the elements of the designation generation – the input fields for the designation parts and the button to insert the document code.
Generate the designation and press <Enter>.
Composition and step-by-step instructions to define the model designation
You can also select a designation from the external reference (ESKD Classifier) by clicking the Reference
button next to the Designation field. The reference should be connected to KOMPAS-3D.
The component name is entered in the Name field.
Component File Name and Location
When creating a part or an assembly, specify the name of the file where the created part or assembly will be stored and the path to it. Details...
For a local part, the file parameters are not specified, since the local part is stored in the file of the model it is created in.
Advanced options
You can create a part, an assembly, a local part not as a component, but as detailing geometry. To do this, enable the Detailing Geometry option.
Completing the operation
To complete creating the component, click the corresponding button on the Parameter Toolbar header:
•when creating a part or assembly — Save
button,
•when creating a local part — Create Object
button.
The Model Design Tree will display an icon corresponding to the component type:
part,
subassembly,
local part.
The system will automatically switch to the context editing mode of the newly created component: the component line in the Design Tree will become yellow, and the title of the current document tab will become orange. The model graphic area will display the icon for the context editing mode
. The objects of the current model will change color and become inaccessible for editing, however, they can be used when constructing the geometry of a component (to indicate faces, edges, vertices).
Perform all necessary actions to build the component and complete the work in the context editing mode by clicking the mode icon in the graphics area. The system will return to work with the main model.
Context editing of the component is described in detail in the Working in the context editing mode.

If the first element of the created part (local part) is planned for construction based on a sketch, and a planar object for its placement already exists in the model, specify this object before calling the component creation command. In this case, in the context editing mode of the created component, editing of the sketch located in the specified plane is automatically launched. Perform the necessary constructions and exit the sketch mode. |
A component (part, assembly, local part) created in the model context is associated with this model by coincidence. The mating is overlaid on the absolute coordinate system of the component and the current coordinate system of the model, which makes the component fixed in the current coordinate system of the model. The newly created mating is added to the Matings section of the model Design Tree.
|
It is not recommended to delete the Coincidence mating overlaid on a component, unless this is explicitly needed. |
