When importing from STEP, JT, and proprietary formats, you can use configurations.

Configurations allow you to reuse previously saved import settings or transfer them to other workstations.

A configuration is a file that contains the types of objects transferred during import and the import parameters. The configuration file extension and the set of settings saved are determined by the format of the imported model (see table).

Configuration files

Imported format

Configuration file extension

Settings that are saved in the configuration

STEP AP203, AP214, AP242

sicf

All

JT

jicf

General settings and the full filename for mapping JT attributes to KOMPAS-3D properties (the file is selected when configuring property import)

Proprietary formats

picf

General settings and text import settings, including the full name of the selected special character mapping file

Configuration files have different file extensions but share a common format, similar structure, and content; therefore, if necessary, you can apply a configuration created for importing models of one format to the import of models of another format.

Configuration files can be viewed and edited in any text editor.

Saving and loading a configuration are available when importing a model and when importing objects into the current model.

Configuration settings are configured in the import options dialog. This dialog appears after selecting the "Open with parameters..." command in the dialog for opening the file to be imported. The contents of the options dialog depend on the format from which the import is being performed.

To create a configuration file, set all the necessary parameters in the settings dialog and click the Save to File button next to the field Configuration (for proprietary formats and JT, these elements are on the page Data). After clicking the button, a file save dialog will appear on the screen, where you will need to enter a file name and confirm the save.

After saving, the full name of the configuration file appears in the Configuration field, meaning that this configuration is automatically selected for use in the current and subsequent import procedures.

If necessary, you can revert to the default configuration. To do this, click the Default icon on the right side of the Configuration field. The settings in the dialog box will revert to their default values.

To load a different configuration, click the Configuration field name and select the desired file in the Open dialog box.

When you open a configuration file, the system automatically selects the file extension that corresponds to the format of the document being imported. If you need to load a configuration created for a different format, set the File type option in the Open dialog to All files (*.*) and select the configuration file with the appropriate extension.

When using configurations, keep the following in mind:

•If a configuration is specified when importing one of the models, it is applied to all subsequent imports of models in the same format, even if the import is performed without opening the configuration dialog. In the case of a proprietary format, the configuration applies to both models of the same format and models of all other proprietary formats.
If no configuration is specified, the default import settings are applied.

•If import settings are changed for the current model but not saved to a configuration file, they are applied only once, i.e., only for importing that specific model.

•If you need to import a file with different settings while a configuration is selected, change the settings without deleting the configuration. The modified settings will be used in the current import process, and the configuration will be applied to subsequent import processes.
