Notes on importing objects

•Points are transferred with the object type saved.

•Curves are imported in the following way: segments, arcs, broken lines, and splines are transferred with the object Curves without history.

•Surfaces are transformed into Operations without history, and solids — to objects Operations without history.

•Polygonal objects are obtained when importing three-dimensional elements represented by mesh generation data (for example, in the form of triangulation mesh or point cloud). If required, you can convert polygonal objects to solids or surfaces. More details on polygonal objects...

Features of importing design elements

Designations, dimensions, and text objects are converted to objects A design element without a history. In this case, labels and text become labels without history, and dimensions become dimensions without history. In some cases, dimensions also become labels without history.

In the Construction Tree, dimensions converted to symbols without history, as well as some symbols, are called Imported Symbol. The names of the remaining symbols and dimensions correspond to their types, for example, Linear dimension, Majority surface, Leader line etc.

Text labels without a history may or may not be editable. This depends on the text import settings. A dimension label without a history consists of text and is editable.

•If tolerance limits are specified for a dimension, when converting it to a dimension without history or a designation without history with editable text, the tolerance limits may be displayed either in their original form or as a single line—first the upper limit, then the lower limit (with all characters in the line being the same height).

•When importing dimensions and dimension lines that are converted to dimension lines without history, symbols displayed on extension lines and at the ends of dimension lines—such as arrows, notches, base symbols, and others—may not be transferred.

You can hide styling elements without a history, exclude them from calculations, or move them to another layer.

If necessary, you can hide or show all design elements without a history using the command View — Hide — Convensional symbols .

Editing imported text

If the model text is imported while preserving its text properties, it is inserted into the layout element without a history as a text object and is available for editing.

1.To start editing the text, double-click its image in the design area or the corresponding design element in the Design Tree.
The text entry process will start. An editable field will appear in the design area.

2.Enter the desired text in the field.

3.If necessary, use the options in the Parameters panel to change the text style and settings, insert the desired characters, and so on.

If the Match texts to system ones option is enabled when configuring text import, the style defined in part/assembly template is applied to the imported text. The style name is displayed in the Style field of the Parameters panel. If the text was imported with this option disabled, a symbol appears in this field «*». This means that the text formatting has been carried over from the source document.

4.To confirm the changes, click anywhere in the drawing area or click the Create Object button.

Features of Importing and Exporting Properties «BOM section» when exchanging models via the JT format

When exporting a KOMPAS-3D model to the JT format, the BOM Section property is transferred as a string attribute and contains only the section name.

When importing a JT-format model, to obtain the value of the BOM Section property, you must configure the import by establishing a mapping between the source model’s attribute storing the specification section name and the KOMPAS-3D system property BOM Section.

The "Section" property is transferred correctly during import if, in the source model, the value of this property (or the values of component properties in the assembly model) is the name of one of the sections in the standard BOMs: Documentation, Complexes, Assembly units, Parts, Software products and Databases, Standard parts, Other products, Materials, or Kits.  As a result of the import, such a model and its components will be assigned to the appropriate sections and will be displayed correctly in the standard BOMs, i.e. BOMs with styles included in the KOMPAS-3D delivery set. In BOMs with user styles, objects may appear in other sections. This depends on the section numbers specified in the style, since the assignment of an object to a particular section is carried out according to the number specified for the object section

The transfer of the BOM Section property during import to and export from the JT format is subject to the following limitations:

•the ownership of the object cannot be correctly transferred to nested or additional section of BOM,

•the ownership of the object is not taken into account to subsection.
