General information about importing models
In KOMPAS-3D it is possible to read models from exchange and proprietary formats.
The result of importing a part is one new file — part KOMPAS-3D. After the import is complete, this file is opened in the window KOMPAS-3D, its tab becomes the current tab.
The result of importing an assembly can be:
•a single assembly model file, where all components are stored as local models; when opened, its tab becomes the current one,
•multiple files — main assembly and components of the main assembly (subassemblies and parts); once opened, the main assembly tab becomes the current one.
The import option for assembly components is selected when configuring the import parameters.
Peculiarities of importing model objects
This section describes the procedure for importing files in all available formats except DXF and DWG (importing from these formats is described in the section File import procedure).
1.Call the command Open...

2.In the File type: list of the dialog box that appears, select the required format.
3.Specify the file to be imported in the dialog box.
4.Start the import process using one of the following methods:
•If you want to import a file with default settings, click Open.
•If you need to configure the import parameters, and a custom setting is available for this format, expand the menu of the Open button and call the Open with Parameters command.... The settings dialog will appear on the screen. Change the parameters in the required way and start the import by clicking Import.

When importing a SolidWorks model (*.sldprt, *.sldasm), keep in mind the following. If the model contains configurations, then in the file KOMPAS-3D only one of them is imported. After clicking Open (or Import in the Settings dialog), the Import model dialog with a list of configurations automatically appears on the screen. Select the desired configuration and click Continue. The selected configuration will be imported into a KOMPAS-3D file. |
After the import is completed, the created KOMPAS-3D model is uploaded for editing.

A third-party file can be opened by dragging it with the mouse from file manager to KOMPAS-3D window. If the assembly model tab is active in the window, you can choose to open the imported model or insert it into the assembly as imported component. |
