Configuration files contain information about the system settings of KOMPAS-3D. Configuration includes two groups of settings, thus two configuration files are used: *.cfg and *.dsk (see the table KOMPAS-3D configuration files and the settings stored in them).

KOMPAS-3D configuration files and the settings stored in them

Configuration file

Settings stored in the file

*.cfg

System Settings

The settings made on the System tab of the general settings dialog, which is invoked by the Setup — Options... command.

The contents of the File – Location section is intended for viewing, so it is not included into the *.cfgfile.

For more details on system settings, see section System Settings.

*.dsk

The list of open documents and their status.

Right after the system installation, configuration files are missing. They are created upon the first change of settings and saving changes. For defining folders to store configuration files, see section Definition of paths to system files and folders. KOMPAS-3D environment variables. On every change of respective settings configuration files are overwritten.

If necessary, you can disable creation of configuration files (see section Save Configuration).

In the absence of configuration files (for example, upon the first start of the KOMPAS-3D system), default settings stored in the system are used.

If you need to run KOMPAS-3D with default parameters, delete or rename the configuration files.

The current system configuration can be saved in the system parameters file, *.pfl (see section Saving system parameters). Afterwards, using this file lets tiy quickly change the available setting with the one written in it.

Note that into the file *.cfg and into the system parameters file (*.pfl), included are only the settings which were changed as compared to the default. The unchanged parameters are not written.

While reading the *.cfg file or applying the system parameters file (*.pfl) to parameters, if information is missing, default values are assigned. The default path to the SYS folder is taken from the KOMPAS.ini file (see section KOMPAS.ini file, and if this file is absent, the path is determined by the value of the respective KOMPAS environment variable (see section Definition of paths to system files and folders. KOMPAS-3D environment variables).
