KOMPAS.ini — a text file containing data that defines various system operation parameters.

KOMPAS.ini file is missing from the package. You have to create it yourself and save it to the same folder where the exe-file is located. The search for the ini-file is conducted only in the folder containing the exe-file.

The KOMPAS.ini file can be created manually or by pressing a special button in the system files location view dialog (see section Position).

The data in the KOMPAS.ini file is presented as key values, distributed across sectors. The description of sectors and keys is provided in the table.

Sectors and keys of the KOMPAS.ini file

If the specified file is missing, then general tolerances are not assigned to the sizes of models.

SpcConvertToMetadata

The key controls display of a message when opening BOMs created in KOMPAS-3D up to version 18, and the method of processing such a BOM. Values of the key:

0 — (default value) a message is issued, to continue working you need to press the Yes button (agree to convert the specification to the current version format) or No button (decline the conversion),

1 — no message is displayed, the conversion is performed (corresponds to pressing the Yes button in the message),

2 — the message is not issued, the conversion is not performed (equivalent to pressing the No button in the message).

ReadOldFormatFiles

The key controls the ability to open documents created in KOMPAS-3D up to version 17. Values of the key:

Yes - documents are opened (default value),

No — documents do not open.

Check CRC

The key controls the checksum checking for a loaded KOMPAS document file. Values of the key:

No - Checksum is not verified (default value),

Yes - Checksum is verified.

When the calculated checksum does not coincide with the checksum found in the file, a message about incorrect file structure is displayed if the checksum checking is enabled, or an emergency exit might happen otherwise in KOMPAS-3D.

You may try to open a file with wrong checksum using the Open with verification (the checksum is not verified); however, this may result in an emergency termination of KOMPAS-3D.

[Colors]

Determines the color of non-printable characters.

The color is set in the RGB model, values can be decimal or hexadecimal. For more details on setting the color of non-printable characters...

FormattingCharactersColour

Color of formatting characters.

EmptySignPlaceColour

Color of character spaces for indexes and fractions.

[Appearance]

Contains the folder paths of image files that are used to texture model objects. For more details on working with textures...

Textures

Specifies the name of the folder with files of images which are overlaid on the object surface using Texture and simulate the texture of the material.

Reliefs

Specifies the name of the folder with files of images which are overlaid on the object surface using the method Relief and simulate the surface relief.

Cuts

Specifies the name of the folder with files of images which are overlaid on the object surface using Cuts and simulate a mesh surface.

[3dconnexion]

Contains coefficients for axes of the 3Dconnection manipulator.

Coefficients influence the speed of changing the document image on the screen (changing scale, shift, rotation) when moving the manipulator joystick in the appropriate direction.

Note that this setting should be activated if the desired result cannot be achieved using the manipulator's standard configuration program. In this case, it is necessary to create a KOMPAS.ini file and empirically select coefficient values.

3dconnexion_X

3dconnexion_Y

3dconnexion_Z

3dconnexion_A

3dconnexion_B

3dconnexion_C

The key values are values of the coefficients for appropriate directions.

The KOMPAS.ini file, created automatically (i.e. by pressing the Create KOMPAS.ini button in the dialog Position), contains the section [3dconnexion] and all its keys with default values.

A coefficient larger than the default one means increasing the speed of image changing.

A coefficient which is smaller than the default one but larger than 0 means decreasing the speed of image changing.

A coefficient equal to 0 means lack of response of the image to moving the manipulator joystick in the appropriate direction.

A coefficient smaller than 0 means reversing the image changing. The more is the coefficient modulus, the more is the speed of change.

[3D Converters]

Contains conversion parameters of 3D models.

STEP_Unicode

The key determines the text encoding variant in string attributes (for example, the product name) when exporting to STEP format. Values of the key:

Yes — the attribute text is exported in Unicode encoding (default value),

No — attribute text is exported in non-Unicode encoding (ANSI).

If after opening the model in the target system, there is an incorrect display of attributes containing Cyrillic characters, assign the value "No" to the key and export the model again.

PPF_NX_ConverterType

Select the type of variablePPF_CREO_ConverterType

PPF_SW_ConverterType

PPF_INV_ConverterType

PPF-CATIA Converter Type

PPF_SE_ConverterType

PPF_3DXML_ConverterType

Keys determine the preferred model reading means for proprietary formats. Each key corresponds to a specific format and can have one of two values:

ascon — for the format, the built-in reading tools in KOMPAS-3D are used; these tools allow you to open only NX or SolidWorks models; the built-in reading tools for proprietary formats are installed unconditionally,

cadex — extended reading tools are used for the format; these tools allow opening a model from any of the proprietary formats; to install the extended reading tools for proprietary formats during the installation of KOMPAS-3D, the corresponding option must be enabled.

If advanced reading tools are installed, they are used by default (in the absence of keys) for all formats.

[Logging]

Controls the creation of a log-file that records user actions performed while working in KOMPAS-3D.

File Name Pattern:

<date>_KOMPAS_<Process ID>

Example of log file name:

2020-03-17_KOMPAS_14680.log

Log file location:

...\\ProgramData\\ASCON\\Kompas-3D\\Logs

In case of normal shutdown of KOMPAS-3D, this file is deleted, otherwise it remains.

Since the logfile contains information about the activities performed in KOMPAS-3D, when contacting technical support, an employee may ask the user to create and send the file. If you intend to contact technical support for KOMPAS-3D failures, it is recommended to attach a logfile to the ticket.

WriteLog

The key determines whether a log-file is created or not. Values of the key:

No - No file is generated (default value)

Yes - The file is generated.

[RepairedShells]

Controls the correction in the model with operations without a history of individual technical errors, which appear in the fact that some model objects (edges, faces) are not displayed or not highlighted, and also are not projected into associative views. You correct the errors when you open with the command Open with verification. To correct the projections, after opening and saving the model, the projection must be re-generated.

RestoreName

The key determines whether the above errors in models are corrected when the models are opened using the Open with verification command. Values of the key:

No - Errors are not corrected (default),

Yes - Errors are corrected.

[Windows]

Controls the display of the KOMPAS-3D splash screen during system startup.

ShowSplash

The key determines whether a splash screen is displayed upon startup. Values of the key:

Yes - splash screen is displayed (default value),

No – the splash screen is not displayed.

[Bmp]

Contains information on the maximum size of the block for outputting raster and halftone images to the printer.

MaxBlockSize

Indicates the maximum block size (in tens of kilobytes). For example, if the key equals 1000, then raster and halftone images are output in blocks of 10 Megabytes. If the key value is less than or equal to 0, the entire image is output in a single pass.

[FontEscapement]

Contains information on the method of printing text.

TextAsBitmap

The key determines whether the text symbols are displayed as raster. Values of the key:

No - Symbols are printed as characters of the selected font (default value),

Yes — symbols are printed as raster images.

Enabling text output in raster format addresses the issue of printing TrueType fonts supplied with the system on certain plotters (such as the Calcomp 720C).

[Print Preview]

Contains information about displaying drawing views in print preview mode.

LevelofDetailDrawingView

Enable or disable the simplified display of drawing views as bounding rectangles. Values of the key:

0 — simplification disabled (default value),

1 — enables simplified display for views, the screen size of which does not exceed the value specified in the DisplaySize key,

2 — simplification enabled for all drawing views regardless of their display size.

Simplification is applied only in the preview mode — it allows rendering drawings faster, particularly if there are many sheets or if the views contain many details. If you print, all types are output entirely regardless of the key value.

DisplaySize

Specifies the screen size of the view (in pixels). Views, the smaller side of which is shorter than or equal to the specified value, are replaced with outline rectangles. Value Range: [3; 3000].

[Other]

Contains additional settings.

DocumentCodeSpaceDelimiterOn

The key determines whether a space is added between the document identifier and the document code. Values of the key:

Yes - space is appended (default)

No – space is not appended

1.If the specified folder is missing, then it is created.

2.If the specified folder is missing, then another folder is used. The path thereto is defined as described in section Definition of paths to system files and folders. KOMPAS-3D environment variables.

In the file KOMPAS.ini, it is possible to specify the locations of folders and files using either absolute paths (for example, Sys=C:\\Program Files\\Ascon\\Kompas-3D V...\\Sys) or paths relative to the folder containing the KOMPAS.ini and KOMPAS.exe files (for example, Sys=..\\Sys).

Besides, upon setting the paths it is possible to use Windows system variables (for example, Temp=%Temp%).

Lines starting with the character “semicolon” (;) are treated as comments and are ignored in the processing the KOMPAS.ini file.

If the value of the key contains a space, then it should be quoted (for example, Temp="D:\Work materials\Temporary files").

The KOMPAS.ini file, automatically created (by pressing the Create KOMPAS.ini button in the system files location viewer dialog), does not contain certain sections and keys, for example, the [Colours] section. If required, you may include them manually.
