In KOMPAS-3D, it is possible to construct:

Segment through two points,

Parallel Segment,

Perpendicular Segment,

Tangent Segment through External Point,

Tangent Segment through Point on Curve,

Segment Tangent to Two Curves.

You can use snaps and a geometrical calculator.

The segment plotting commands are combined in a group. While executing a group command, you can switch to execution of another one using buttons of the Parameter Toolbar header.

You can also transfer any parameters you’ve specified between the commands of a group. More information about parameter propagation...

Segment through two points

A segment through two points is plotted using the Segment  command.

Step-by-step instructions

1.Set the starting point of the segment.

2.Determine the position of the end point of the segment in one of the following ways.

Set the end point.

Set the length and slope angle of the segment (the angle between the line and the x-axis of the current coordinate system). The length and slope angle of the segment are specified in the respective fields of the Parameter Toolbar. The position of the end point of the segment is determined automatically.

After determining the position of the end point, the segment is automatically created.

3.To complete operation of the command, click Finish .

Parallel Segment

A segment parallel to a straight-line item is plotted using the Parallel Segment  command.

Step-by-step instructions

1.Specify a straight line object, parallel to which the segment should pass. The name is displayed in the Object field on the Parameter Panel.

2.Set the starting point of the segment. The distance from the object to the parallel segment will be determined automatically.

This distance can be entered in the corresponding field of the Parameter Toolbar before setting the position of the starting point of the segment.

3.Determine the position of the end point of the segment in one of the following ways:

set the end point of a segment,

set the length of the segment in the corresponding field of the Parameter Panel.

After determining the position of the end point, the segment is automatically created.

4.To complete operation of the command, click Finish .

Perpendicular Segment

A segment perpendicular to the selected item is plotted using the Perpendicular Segment  command.

Step-by-step instructions

1.Specify the object, perpendicular to which the segment should pass. The name is displayed in the Object field on the Parameter Panel.

2.Set the starting point of the segment.

3.Determine the position of the end point of the segment in one of the following ways:

set the end point of a segment,

set the length of the segment in the corresponding field of the Parameter Panel.

After determining the position of the end point, the segment is automatically created.

Tangent Segment through External Point

A segment tangent to the selected curve and passing through a point outside of this curve is plotted using the Tangent Segment through External Point  command.

Step-by-step instructions

1.Specify the curve to which the segment should go. The name of the curve appears in the Object field in the Parameter panel.

2.Specify the starting point of the segment outside the selected object. Phantoms of all variants of segments, tangential to the selected object and passing through the specified point, will appear in the graphics area.

3.The end point of the default segment is the tangency point. If you want to build a segment of a certain length, enter the desired value in the field Length Parameter Panel.

4.Fix the required phantom with a mouse click. To fix several phantoms use <Ctrl> key. Details...
After fixing the phantom, a segment is automatically created.

If you can build only one tangent segment to the selected curve, then it is automatically created after specifying the starting point (fixing the phantom is not required). The length of the segment can be set only to indicate its starting point.

5.To complete operation of the command, click Finish .

Tangent Segment through Point on Curve

A segment tangent to a curve and passing through a specified point of this curve is plotted using the Tangent Segment through Point on Curve . command.

Step-by-step instructions

1.Specify the curve to which the segment should go. The name is displayed in the Object field on the Parameter Panel.
After specifying an object in the graphics area, a phantom tangent appears.

2.Determine the position of the segment in one of the following ways.

Set the tangency point – a point on the selected curve.

Point can be specified both on the curve and outside it. In the latter case, the position of the tangency point is determined by the projection of the specified point on the curve.

Enter the slope angle of the tangent segment (the angle between it and the abscissa axis of the current coordinate system) in the corresponding field in the Parameter Panel. Phantoms of all tangents located at a given angle will appear in the graphics area. Select the desired phantom, the tangency point will be determined automatically.

Phantom selection

3.Determine the direction of segment construction by moving the mouse from the tangency point in the desired direction.

4.Set the starting point of the segment in one of the following ways:

specify the start point,

enter the length of the segment in the corresponding field Parameter Panel.

The segment is created automatically after the start point is set.

5.To complete operation of the command, click Finish .

Segment Tangent to Two Curves

Segment, passing by tangent line to two curves, is constructed using the Segment Tangent to Two Curves  command.

1.Specify the curves which the segment should be tangential to. The name will be displayed in the Objects field on the Parameter Panel.
After selecting the curves in the graphics area there are phantoms of all variants of the segments tangential to them. The starting and ending points of the segments are tangency points.

2.Fix the required phantom with a mouse click. To fix several phantoms use <Ctrl> key. Details...
After fixing the phantom, a segment is automatically created.

If you can build only one tangent segment to the selected curves, it will be automatically created after their selection.

3.To complete operation of the command, click Finish .
