Data sorting is meant for displaying objects in a report in a specific order. Sorting parameters are configured when creating/editing report style.

You can configure from one to three levels of sorting. At each level, sorting is performed by a single property. This property can be selected when configuring the sorting. Also during the configuration the detailing of the objects to be sorted is configured — in alphabetical order (ascending or descending); in ascending or descending numerical order; by a list of values. The procedure of setting the sorting parameters is shown below.

The sorting is performed as follows:

Level 1 (Priority 1) — all report objects are sorted.
Result: the report objects are arranged in accordance with the sorting setting. Objects that have the same property of the value used for sorting follow one another and form a set in which the next level sorting will be performed. Please note that such sets will be generated only if rows of objects with the same values have not been replaced by one row as a result of grouping (see section Data grouping).

Level 2 (Priority 2) — objects in the resulting sets are sorted.
Result: objects are arranged in accordance with the sorting setting, and if the values of the properties coincide, they form sets (on the analogy with the first level sorting).

Level 3 (Priority 3) — objects are sorted within the sets obtained after the second level sorting.
Result: objects are arranged in accordance with the sorting setting, and if the values of the properties coincide, they form sets (on the analogy with the first level sorting).

The second and third levels of sorting will be performed if:

sets of objects were formed after sorting at the previous level,

previous level of sorting cannot be performed (for example, if objects are not configured with values for the property by which the sorting is to be performed).

Example 1

When report creating, the style By default is selected for the assembly model. This style provides two levels of sorting: — by designation and by name.

Both designations and names are specified for the components of the model. However, after the first level sorting (by designation), sets of components will not be formed, since each component has its own designation that is different from others. Therefore, the second level sorting (by name) is not performed for the components.

The fasteners included in the model will have names only. They have no designations configured, so first level sorting is not possible. Only the second level sorting is performed — by name.

Example 2

Sub-assemblies and parts are the components of an assembly model. Reporting this model requires that all sub-assemblies be listed first followed by all parts. The resulting sets (sub-assemblies and parts) should be sorted by designation.

To generate such report set the first level of sorting by object type, and the second level of sorting by designation. The sorting of both levels will be performed.

Procedure of sorting parameters configuration

1.Invoke the Data Sorting in Report. To do this, in the Report Style Click the mouse in the Sorting field of any of the columns.

2.Configure all the required levels of sorting using the group elements Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3 respectively.
Perform the following steps for configuration:

2.1. In the Value drop-down list, select the property by which sorting should be performed. The list contains all the object properties included in the report (columns with these properties will be displayed in the Report Style dialog). If this level of sorting is not required, choose nan from the list.

2.1. From the dropdown list Sorting, select an arrangement of sorted objects:

A–Z — in an alphabetical order or in an ascending order for numerical values,

Z–A — in inverse alphabetical order or in descending order of numbers,

By list — in the order of values in the property value list. For example, for the Object Type property, first assembly units will be listed, then parts, followed by standard items, and so on.
An option is present in the Sorting list, if the property has a list of values which is set when you create it in the dialog Property Parameters (see section. Property creation).

3.Click Apply to complete the configuration process. Dialog Data Sorting in Report will close. The result of the configuration will appear in the Sorting row of the Report Style dialog — the priority of sorting execution and the arrangement option for sorted objects will be displayed in the cells of the properties selected for sorting.
