Free placement of the section plane

Scroll

If when creating model section, in the Method group the Free Placement  button is pressed, the cutting plane is placed arbitrarily.

Free placement of the section plane includes the configuration of the reference point position and defining the position of the plane in the model, as well as the configuration of the plane orientation.

To set the position of the reference point, elements of the Position  group of the Parameter Panel are used.

The following methods can be used for configuring the position of the reference point.

Enter coordinates in the Coordinates field.

Specify a point object in the Design Tree or in the graphic range. The name of the selected object is displayed in the Snap point field. The reference point is associated with a point object.

Plotting a point. To do this, use the Plot Point button to the right of the Snap Point field. After this button is clicked the subprocess of plotting a pointstarts. Select the design method and configure the required parameters. After completing the process of building a point, the system will return to the process of creating a section.
The point construction process is used only to determine the position of the reference point; this does not create a new point.

To set the orientation of the section plane, use the elements of the Orientation group.

You can set the orientation using the following methods.

Specify an object in the Design Tree or in the graphic range to define the direction of the normal of the section plane (the normal coincides with the Z axis of the locating element, see below).

A sphere can only be selected if the reference point of the section plane belongs to it. In this case, the normal coincides with the perpendicular line to the sphere at the reference point.

The object name is displayed in the Direction of the normal field.

Vector construction. To do this, use the Design Vector  button to the right of the Direction of the normal field. After this button is clicked the the process of designing a vectorstarts. After completing the process of building a vector, the system will return to the process of creating a section. The normal to the section plane will be parallel to the vector and aligned to it. The name of the vector appears in the Direction of the normal field.

The direction of the cut can be switched to the opposite by clicking the Change Direction button to the right of the Direction of the normal field.

You can configure the orientation of the model so that the section plane is parallel to the screen plane. To do this, click View on the Section Plane .

The position and orientation of the section plane can also be changed using the positioning element. It is similar to the coordinate system and consists of three 3D axes, X, Y, and Z, of red, green and blue colors. Arcs of the corresponding colors are displayed in the planes perpendicular to the axes. Arrows on the arcs show the positive direction of the rotation angle. The center point of an element is marked with a sphere or a cube (a cube is displayed if the reference point is associated with the model object). The XY plane of the element coincides with the created section plane. The positive direction of the Z axis shows the direction of cut.

To change the position of the reference point of the section plane move the base element. Element rotation changes the orientation of the plane in the model. More details on moving and rotating a base element...

If the reference point of the section plane has an associative link with the object (the center point of the element is marked with a cube), then arbitrary movement of the element will not be available.

The associative link can be canceled by moving an element along the axis.
