Creation/Editing a model section is performed in a special process of section creating.

after starting the process of creating a section, a phantom of the section plane will appear in the graphic range.

The position of the phantom corresponds to the first step of cutting. The name of the first step is displayed in the Cutting step field.

Model cut may include several cutting steps. On each step, the part of the model is cut by one or several planes. The number of planes depends on the method chosen for setting the step parameters.

The number of the cutting steps is arbitrary, however, the section of the model can contain up to 6 cutting planes.

Set the required parameters for the first cutting step. Use the following procedure.

1.Select the method of placing the section plane by clicking the desired button in the Method group and configure the parameters for the selected method. The following options are available:

Free placement,

Offset Plane,

Rotated Plane,

Box,

Zone.

If the specified parameters are not sufficient to create a cutting step or if the parameters are configured incorrectly, the (!) symbol appears to the right of the step name in the list.

2.Specify whether to display a phantom face(s) at the section of the model created by the plane using the Paint section option. With this option enabled, the phantom face(s) is displayed, with this option disabled it will not be displayed. The color and optical properties of this facet are configured in the Properties section (see below). The phantom face is not an object and is displayed only when the model section mode is activated (see the figure).

Disabling the display of phantom face(s) may be required, for example, to visually assess the correctness of the relative position of the components of the assembly model (checking for the components intersections, etc.).

Activating/deactivating the option Paint section option applies to the entire section created, and not for its individual steps, i.e. phantom faces are displayed (or not displayed) for all cutting steps.

Phantom faces, as well as their edges and vertices can not be used when performing any operations in the model. They are not available for reference.

3.To create a new step, click Add Clipping Step to the right of the Clipping Step field. The name of the new step appears in the field. Select the design method and set the parameters for placing the section plane as described above.

4.If necessary, specify the name of the section. To do this, in the Properties section, enter the required text in the Name field.

5.If necessary, set the color and optical properties of the phantom face using the elements of the Displaying group.

6.To complete creating a section, click Create Object . The button is available if the section contains at least one step the parameters of which are configured completely and without errors.

The newly created section becomes the current section. The model is displayed cut by the planes of this section, i.e. the model section mode is activated.

If the created section contains steps with no specified parameters or with parameter errors, then after creating the section, a message appears on the screen with a list of all the errors in the section.
