In KOMPAS-3D several ways to manage parametric images are available. These methods are described below.

Changing values of variables

You can change values of variables in the Variables toolbar.

If the system of equations cannot be solved with the set value of a variable, a relevant message will appear.

Values of dimension variables of graphic documents and sketches can also be set in the Set dimension value dialog.

After Changing the value of variable, related to the dimension of the current view, this view is automatically rebuilt.

If a dimension variable of a non-current view is edited, you should rebuild the drawing. After rebuilding, the image in the views will be created anew so that the parameters of the geometric objects would match the values of the variables.

Controlling dimension values

Changing a dimension value (and, accordingly, configuration of the geometry it controls) is only possible if this dimension is fixed.

To change the dimension value, do the following.

1.Double click the dimension text. On the screen, there will appear the Set dimension value dialog.

2.If the dimension is fixed, the Expression field will be available. Enter a new dimension value.

If the name of a variable is assigned to a dimension, you can enter an expression to calculate the dimension value or, vice versa, replace the existing expression with a numerical value (variables which were part of the deleted expression are not deleted from the document).

If the dimension is not fixed, release Informational dimension button. The dimension will become fixed and the Expression field will become available. Enter a new dimension value.

3.Click Change size button. Dimension value will be changed.

If changing a dimension value or executing a fixation cannot be made due to excessively applied constraints, a relevant message will appear.

Editing by dragging points

You can edit a parametric image with a mouse by dragging defining points of its constituent objects. Details...

When you displace an object’s characteristic point, all the objects linked to it will also be rebuilt.

If an object has constraints which completely determine its position (for example, all the required dimensions linking the part’s geometry have been set), simple displacement of the linked objects to a new position will be executed without rebuilding geometry. But if the object is linked to a fixed point, no actions at all will be performed.

You can easily determine if dragging the objects' defining points is available, if Displaying degrees of freedom. At least one existing degree of freedom means that the characteristic point can be displaced, and absence of degrees of freedom means that displacing cannot be made.

The object’s degrees of freedom are also displayed if the image is fully determined and displacement of this object’s characteristic point will result in simple displacement of the image.
