To merge several table cells into a single cell, use the Merge Cells  command

Prior to fetching the command, select the cells to be merged.

The command is available if the selected cells form a rectangular block.

The styles of borders of the cells being merged may be different. The style of borders of the merged cell is selected according to the following rules:

the style of upper horizontal border matches the style of the upper border of the left–hand upper cell in a selected block;

the style of the bottom horizontal border matches the style of the bottom border of the left–hand bottom cell in a selected block;

the style of the left–hand vertical border matches the style of the left–hand border of the upper left cell in a selected block;

the style of the right–hand vertical border matches the style of the right–hand border of the upper right cell in a selected block.

Rules of forming the text in a merged cell:

texts of the cells being merged are added to the text of the upper left cell in the order of arrangement of cells from left to right and top down;

texts of cells being merged retain the following paragraph properties: Line Spacing, Indent, Margins, Tabulation, Spacing, Alignment;

texts of the cells being merged retain the following font parameters: Font, Height, Width, Italic, Bold, Underlined, Color;

the text of each cell being merged in a merged cell starts with a new paragraph;

cells not containing text do not create an empty paragraph;

the values of the parameters Indentations, Follow Up Horizontal Dimension, Follow Up Vertical Dimension of the merged cell are equal to the values of similar parameters of the upper left–hand cell.
