A layer is a logical group of document objects. Layering simplifies changing the properties of a group of objects. E.g., for all objects lying on one layer, you can simultaneously change the color, enable/disable the display in the graphics range, export to an associative view, etc. To work with layers, use Layer tree.

There is always a system layer in a model and, if the user has not created other layers, all objects are placed on the system layer.

Up to 2 147 483 647 layers can be created in the model. The user chooses the objects to be placed on a particular layer. For example, on some layers you can place auxiliary objects, dimensions, fasteners, etc. A layer can contain objects of any type, including objects from different designs, but the same object cannot belong to different layers.

To find out the object layer select it in the Design Tree or in the graphic range and call the Object layer command from the context menu. The layer of the selected object will be ticked in the list of layers. If the model contains more than ten layers, the list is not displayed in the context menu. In this case, to find out to which layer the selected object belongs, enable Parameter Panel. The name and number of the object layer will be displayed in the Object Layer field.

Model objects can be moved between layers.
