Building a Plate

Scroll

To add a plate to the sheet element, use the Plate command.

Step-by-step instructions

1.Set the plate sketch:

If the model contains a sketch, you can use the whole sketch or its part — an area obtained by intersection of the sketch contours or restricted by one of them.

To select a sketch specify one of its objects in the graphic area of the model or specify the sketch itself in the Design Tree.

To select an area in a sketch, click inside that area.

If there is no sketch, you can build one by clicking the Create sketch button to the right of the Sketch field. Will start sketch placement process, and then the system will switch to the Sketch mode For creating geometry. Perform the steps necessary to build and complete the sketch mode. The created sketch will be automatically selected.

After selecting a sketch a plate phantom appears in the graphics area.

The name of the selected sketch is displayed in the Sketch field. When you select a sketch area, the word Area is added to the field content.

You can change the sketch if necessary. To do this, click in the Sketch field and select the required sketch or a sketch area. You can also edit the selected sketch by clicking the icon in the Sketch field.

2.Specify the method for determining the thickness of the plate using the Determine Thickness list:

for the plate thickness to be coincident with the thickness of the sheet part, select a row with the name of the required sheet part,

to set an arbitrary thickness, select the Specified Value row, then enter a value in the Thickness field.

The material adding direction (shown with an arrow on the phantom) is automatically defined by the system. You cannot change the direction.

3.If required, set the name of the plate and properties of its surface display using the controls located in the Properties section.

4.To complete the build, click Create object .

After completing the above steps, a plate will appear in the sheet part, and its icon .

5.To complete operation of the command, click Finish .

Additional Methods for Creating a Plate

You can add a plate to a sheet part using the Extrusion Element. The created plate is a sheet element if it is merged with the existing sheet solid and its thickness is the same as that of the sheet solid.

Construction methods are given below.

Method 1

1.Create a plate sketch either on the outer or inner flat face of a sheet element.

2.Using the Extrusion Element command, create a plate based on a sketch by setting such extrusion direction and depth so that the outer and inner flat faces of the plate become extensions of the respective faces of the sheet element.

When you build a plate in this way, note the following. If you change the part so that the thickness of the plate and sheet solid are not the same, the plate ceases to be the sheet element.

To avoid this, set the extrusion depth using one of the following methods.

Select the To object option in the To object group of buttons. Specify a face of the sheet element opposite to the sketch, or a vertex of this face as an object.

Select the To Distance option in the To object group of buttons. Enter the name of the variable which is used for the thickness of a sheet solid in the Distance field.

Method 2

Create a plate by extruding a flat end face of the sheet element. When building, do not slope side walls of the element.
