Sketch Placement Procedure

Scroll

A sketch can be placed on a flat object existing in the model (a coordinate or construction plane, a flat face) or on a phantom plane perpendicular to the selected curve.

The method and parameters of sketch placement are set during its creation but can be changed during further work with the sketch.

To configure the placement of the sketch, the Sketch Placement process is used.

Step-by-step instructions

1.Select the sketch placement method and set the parameters for the selected method. To do this, use the buttons of the Tracing mode group and the controls of the Main section of the Parameter Panel. The following sketch placement methods are available:

On Plane (selected by default) — the sketch is constructed on the specified flat object (a flat face, a coordinate or construction plane).
Selecting a flat object to place a sketch

On Path — the sketch is built on a phantom plane which passes through a specified point of the indicated curve (chain of curves) perpendicular to this curve.
Setting the path for placing the sketch

Fixed — the sketch is built on a phantom plane fixed in the model space.
Fixation of the Current Sketch Position

2.Define the position of the sketch coordinate system. To do this, use the controls of the Sketch Coordinate System section on the Parameter Panel and the placement element in the graphic area.

For the On Plane method, the following are available:

Setting the point to coincide with the origin of the coordinate system using elements of the Position group. Details...

Setting the directions of the axes of the coordinate system using the elements of the Orientation group. Details...

Reversing the direction of the Z axis using the Z Axis Direction toggle switch.
After setting the toggle switch to the Reverse position, the image in the sketch is moved to the reverse side of its plane. If you need to return the image to its previous position, set the toggle switch to Forward.

For the On the trajectory method, the following are available:

Setting the directions of the axes of the coordinate system using the elements of the Orientation group. Details...

Reversing the direction of the Z axis using the Z Axis Direction toggle switch (see above).

For the Fixed method, changing the position of the sketch coordinate system is not available.

3.Select the model coordinate system defining the position of the sketch coordinate system.
By default, the position of the sketch coordinate system is determined by the projection of the current coordinate system of the model on the sketch plane (or by the coordinate system of the auxiliary planeif it specifies the sketch plane). If necessary, you can select another coordinate system from those available in the model. To do this, expand the Coordinate System section and select the required coordinate system from the SC list. The position of the sketch coordinate system will be determined relative to the selected model coordinate system.
If the required coordinate system does not exist in the model, you can create a local coordinate system without interrupting the sketch placement process. To do this, click Build LCS button next to the SC list. The LCS creation subprocess will start. Perform the required building steps and finish the LCS creation. The system will return to the sketch placement process. The created LCS will determine the position of the sketch coordinate system.

If the sketch is placed by the On the trajectory method , then the origin of its coordinate system coincides with the specified point on the path. Changing the model coordinate system does not change the position of the sketch coordinate system, but it affects the orientation of its axes.

4.If required, set the name of the sketch and properties of its display using the controls of the Properties section.

5.To complete the sketch placement process, click Create Object button in the Parameter Panel header.

If the placement parameters are specified during the sketch creation, the system will switch to the Sketch mode.

If the placement of the existing sketch is edited, it will take a new position. The object formed on the basis of the sketch and its children will be rebuilt.
