Sketch creation procedure

Scroll

When creating a sketch, it is necessary to determine its position in the model and construct the geometric representation.

Step-by-step instructions

1.Run the sketch creation process using one of the following methods.

Run the Create Sketch command.

In the Sketch Tools section of the Tool area of window, call the command to create one of the graphical objects that should be built in the sketch.

If it is necessary to create a sketch during the construction of a 3D element, click Create Sketch on the Parameter Panel (in this case, after creating the sketch, the system will return to the original process).

After completing one of the above-described actions, you start sketch placement process, in which it is necessary:

select the method of sketch placement in the model (on the specified flat object; on a plane perpendicular to the specified trajectory; fixed position),

set the placement parameters according to the chosen method,

select the model coordinate system defining the position of the sketch.

After confirming actions in the process of placing the sketch, the system switches to sketch mode, intended for construction of geometry of the created sketch.

If you select a planar object in the model before calling the Create Sketch command, then the sketch placement process does not start, and the system immediately transitions to the sketch mode. Flat object becomes a sketch plane. The position of the sketch coordinate system is determined by the projection of the current model coordinate system on the sketch plane.

When working in sketch mode, the sketch icon appears in the Design Tree, marked with the symbol . This means that the sketch is currently being edited.

A sketch coordinate system and sketch mode characteristics will be displayed on the screen.

2.To ensure that a sketch is less susceptible to changes during model rebuild, it is recommended to have full parametrization of its geometry, which is executed in parametric mode. Ensure that the parametric mode is enabled — on Quick Access Bars the Parametric mode button is pressed.

3.Build the required image in the sketch. For this purpose use the command to create graphical objects.

Besides, you can insert an existing image into the sketch in the following ways:

add an image from the library using the Library toolbar (see section Using Libraries of Elements),

transfer the image from the previously created drawing or fragment using the clipboard,

add a fragment or figure using the commands of the Insertion menu.

4.When constructing objects in the parametric mode, constraints are automatically applied to them. You can manually create the missing constraints in the sketch (to control the status of the sketch and its objects, special icons and color indicators are used, see section Diagnostics of a parametrized sketch).

5.Close the sketch mode. To do that, click Create Sketch on the Quick Access Toolbar, or click the sketch mode icon in the graphic area of the model, or run the Create Sketch command from the context menu.

The new sketch will be highlighted in the Tree and in the graphic area of the model.

Commands for launching operations that can be performed based on the created sketch can be invoked directly from the sketch mode. For example, if you build a cross–section of the extruded solid in a sketch, you can immediately call the Extrude operation command. The sketch editing mode will be closed automatically, and the command for building the extruded solid will be invoked.

A sketch refers to objects that use the coordinate system (see the section Object coordinate system).
